Decided to sell my bandit
« on: February 06, 2022, 08:54:18 PM »
I have taken the hard decision to part with my bandit which I have owned since 1999 not having used this bike for 3 years and needing the space I had been using the bandit for track days.
I have done a deal with the same mate I actually bought it from  :thumb:

It's always sad to see a good bike go, but if they're not getting used it's time to move them on. Even better if it's to a good home  :thumb:

I'm busy trying to persuade a friend to sell one of his bikes and buy a new knee ! He's struggling to walk and simply can't ride a bike - so what's the point in having them if you can't ride them ? The NHS have estimated 2-3 years, if he goes private he'll be riding this summer.

Out of interest, how much is a knee replacement through private channels?

It’s a bit like me I am waiting for a prostate operation been waiting since September I asked would it be quicker if I went private the answer was yes and it would be done by the same surgeon but just short of £8000
I have a long term catheter fitted since September.

Hence I cannot ride any of my bikes  :bang:

The Mrs had hers done about 5 years ago for £3,800. allowing for inflation etc I guess about £5,000 in today's market ?

Bugger. Hopefully, the push to get the backlog sorted may speed things up a bit for you, fingers crossed  :thumb:

Regarding NHS against paying private.......
last year I had an ear infection (both inner & outer in both ears), it wasn't painful but itchy and was driving me mad! After four visits, within two weeks, to the GP and no improvement with the medicines/ointments they gave me I demanded I go to see the ENT at the local hospital.
They put me in & I got a letter to say I was 'on the list'. I found out the list could make me wait over six months! I decided to go private.
I got a referral from the GP and rang the local 'private hospital', I got an appointment for the next day!
I was in the room with the doctor for no more than ten minutes for a cost of £210 BUT the medicine & cream he gave me sorted my ears out in twenty four hours!! Almost worth the cost for me.  :thumb: Plus another £100 for a second appointment two weeks later to make sure all was OK. Another ten minutes!
Anyway, about six months later I got the appointment at the ENT and although my ears were now OK decided I would go, just to be on the safe side. I was in with the NHS doctor a good twenty minutes, she was still happy to do a thorough examination despite me telling her what had happened. She also put me in for a scan to check for an  Acoustic neuroma, a growth on a nerve in the brain which affects hearing and balance. That was done about two months later and was all clear!  :thumb:
(Acoustic neuroma was put down as the cause of death on my dads death certificate along with old age (94)) so I'm quite pleased I went for my NHS appointment.
So, IMHO if you can't wait and think it's worth the cost, go private, if you can wait then you'll get great treatment from the NHS.
My lad's got private health care with his work & has had a back & two knee operations with it (football injuries) and has had brilliant treatment.

Thanks for the info mick that was very interesting I have an appointment to have the catheter changed on the 21st February so I will ask the likely hood of getting my operation anytime soon and see what they say 🤞

And NorthumBryan thank you I do hope so I will see what they say on the 21st

I will add the quote I got was from a private hospital in Southend on sea but I have found it cheaper if I want to travel  :thumb:
