Fork Oil - How much
« on: April 02, 2023, 11:51:30 PM »
The front suspention on my new YBR is rather soft.

It does not seem to bottom out but its quite sqishy.

Is adding around 10-20ml of fork oil good enough to stiffen it up a bit or should I add some washers to pre-load it a bit?

20ml (per leg) sounds about right as this will reduce the air gap and a couple of washers (very similar internal diameter to the forks) would be OK too. I'd probably go with 20w oil as it's probably got 10w or 15w as stock ? Good luck and let us know how it goes  :thumb:

Thanks,

I thought I had some fork oil laying about but I only found engine oil and dot4 brake fluid  lol

Ill pick up some more and try a top up. The fluid I thought I had was 10w so Ill get some 20w and give it a go.

OEM is 10w and each fork leg takes about 155cc with and air gap (fully compressed without spring) of about 165mm.

The YBR, like most cruiser types, has soft suspension from the factory. If you're going to change to 20w oil, I'd recommend fitting new fork seals at the same time. Last thing you want is to find the seals start leaking a week or two later......
