Title: New front door
Post by: NorthumBryan on December 08, 2023, 11:06:21 AM
Yes, despite it bucketing down yesterday we had a new front door fitted. We previously had two standard sized doors side by side with one opening & one fixed. The new door is wider than standard and the side panels let loads of light into the hallway. It has a very high security lock and after a lot of hassle I managed to organise two extra keys at a rather salty £23 each...

Looks good. I think you got rinsed on the keys though. It probably would have worked out cheaper to buy a pair of Yale Superior (that's what I use, they're probably the most secure available) keyed-alike barrels that would come with 6 keys.

Yes, it uses the Ultion locks (you get a £2,000 gaurantee if it ever gets breached) which have a really unusual key. We can get more barrels in the future so one key does all, if thats what we want. Interestingly, we'll save £50 off the house contents insurance next time we renew due to the high standard of lock, which is nice.

Your postie's going to love you for that back-breaker letterbox. Illegal on new builds due to back injuries, allegedly discontinued by door manufacturers over 20 years ago in a "gentleman's agreement" that nobody sticks to.
