Title: The joys of winter...
Post by: NorthumBryan on December 11, 2022, 03:41:47 PM
Yes, it's that time again, the cars a ball of ice (-5c overnight) and the 'leccy meter is moving so fast the last digit is a blur ! To be fair, that is all electric heating, cooking & lighting and 2 EV's charging as well. My PV system has managed only 42kWh this week but we've used nearly 800kWh...

Blimey that does seem a lot😱 not that I know a lot about it  lol
It was -4 last night here I managed to get out for my walk this afternoon with my wife and me being on 2 walking sticks trying not to slip 😱
We have no gas in this area so we have an oil tank and a oil combi boiler we have a electric oven & a induction hob & a Smart meter which at the moment is currently around £7 per day we try to be as careful as we can as I can imagine everyone is 😭   We also have a wood burner which at the moment is alight most of the day,  my wife took some pictures of the frost on our walk today.

Is that £261 for a week? That's about 3 months gas and electric for me.

Yup, a single 7 day period. That's charging 2 cars as well and no gas or any other fuel to pay for. I get 6 months a year free when the solar PV is in decent production so I can happily live with it. I came home to find the mrs had used a lot of electricity cooking these beauties, home-made sausage rolls.

I can only apologize for corrupting your ears... I've also discovered 'The Chats' a very lively Aussie punk/rock band, also worth a listen, well to my mind anyway. Enjoy -

They've got quite a back catalogue, I like the fact they don't take themselves too seriously. For example -

It's the two cars and the very thirsty Mitsubishi Ecodan 14kW heat pump. It's very efficient, giving a COP of 2.4 to 2.5 on average (for every 1kW of electric used it generates approximately 2.5kW of heat) but does use a lot of electricity to do that. And we need a lot of heat for the bungalow... No gas means all electric cooking too and those sausage rolls don't cook themselves!

There's too much competition to be profitable, living near to Blyth & Ashington (or Ashghanistan is we affectionately call it) which are Northumberlands main druggie centre's the amount of 'home grown' is staggering. Two-for-one offers kill the bottom line and the January sales are coming up too...
