As the title suggests: let everyone know what you've been up to, whether it's working on your bike or going out for a run.
-
Longed after them.
Need to get them MOT'd after both ran out after the test center canceled when VOSA hadn't calibrated the rolling road. :old:
-
Charging the battery ... Love watching the voltage go up .. zzzzzz
-
I've wired in an extra set of fog lights to use as DRL's.
-
Replaced the dzus fastener on the sump guard of my KTM, genuine part would be £13.44, Amazon £5.99, eBay £3.50.
Used Amazon to get it fast, don’t know why as I’m not riding till next week.
-
Finally replaced the barn door mirrors on my DL650 Strom.
Bit less vision and a lot less noise and buffeting.
-
Stared at her on CCTV. :)))

I went to the bike shop and bought HT lead and spark plug caps. Fuel hose, vacuum hose and clips. I am still investigating the VX800 issues. Is it the carbs or the vacuum driven fuel pump or the HT leads giving a weak spark? or maybe none of these. I'll start with a valve clearance check and change the HT leads, plug caps and spark plugs. I'll strip and clean the carbs and check the float heights are in spec. Lucky I bought a compressor so now I can gently blow the jets and other orifices clear. To check the fuel pum I'll use an auxilliary fuel tank and connect the vaccuam line to the no 2 inlet manifold and with plugs out run the engine on the starter to see if fuel is being pumped back up to the aux tank. I think a three seconds on and ten seconds off on the starter should not overheat the starter. What do you think?

Nice ride out on the Z900RS today. Left home at 10 and met with some socially distant friends at Harleston. We went to "Posh Pigs" near Beccles for an all day breakfast. 2 eggs,2 sausages, 2 rashers, mushrooms, tomato, beans, saute potatoes, toast and a black coffee. £8.50. Then on to Oulton Broad for another coffee at the Quay Cafe. Sat on the wall outside the cafe in nice warm sun. Then off home by 1800 with another 170 miles on the odo. A good day out with people I've not seen for a fair few months. Here is the Z900 now fitted with a rear carrier and with the engine bars, begining to look like a bird cage.
-
Nice one Brocket. Over that way in a couple of months for a few nights (not sure if we're on the bike or not yet) but that breakfast sounds like it could be worth a visit to 'Posh Pigs'. :thumb:
-
I do like those Z900's, really well styled :thumb:
-
Today I fitted a new tank protector to the Tigger. The original Triumph one just wouldn't stick and was as dull as dishwater so I bought this very smart gel one of the 'net.
-
Not strictly
even remotely bike related but I gave 'Ed the head' a post-lockdown haircut !
-
Today I found the Playstation cheat code to get rid of the engine management warning light on the 1090. I'd had the dash off and battery disconnected. When resetting the time and date, it assumes a service is due. Left hand cluster: press up and down buttons at same time, wait for service screen to appear, scroll down to time interval, cycle past 24 months back to 12. Switch off, wait, switch on. Result. What a palaver. God knows what it'll be like changing the points and condenser, replacing the Zener diode or balancing the carbs.
-
And six days later (see post above) I went and did it again this time on the SV650.
Mods include:-
belly pan,
engine bars,
hugger,
Delkevic end can,
rack and top box,

Ready to fit - Loobman chain oiler
In the post - Roll tuck seat
Here's the SV at Oulton Broad today.
-
Great pic Brockett, sparkling in the sunshine. I love the red frame & wheels, really sets the bike off :thumb:
-
Today i fitted a set of Crosspro upper protection bars to my Triumph Tiger. Very easy to fit although most of the bolts that came with the kit didn't fit... I had plenty of stainless steel ones available so no drama. They look suitably chunky and fit the bike very well. Happy.
-
Too busy on the roads to take the 'Strom out, so spent the weekend restoring a 2007 FS2. Still looks a bit rough as it has had a hard life, but it still sounds nice!
-
Rode my new bike to Hastings
-
:thumb: Nice weather for it.
-
I had a weekend away doing the SW300 route (ish) around Scotland. Some cracking roads and I can heartily recommend Port Patrick as a place to stay, great atmosphere.
-
Took it past 2,000 miles today with a run up the coast via Seahouses, Bamburgh and then inland to Wooler & Rothbury.
-
Sounded a wonderful run out :thumb:
-
Took the Triumph for its MOT today passed with flying colours
-
Result :thumb:
I always find MOT time stressful in case you've missed something....
-
Fitted these decals
-
The right hand side looks a different colour buts it not its just the light lol
-
Nice, adds a discreet bit of orange :thumb:
-
Yes that what I thought I am pleased with them :thumb:
-
Not today but yesterday in between the rain showers :crying:
-
Give us a clue. Where were the photos taken? and why churches? just curious.
-
Hi Hugo the first church in the field is close to Appledore in East Sussex apparently there used to be a village there and all that is left is the church.
and the second is at lydd in Kent
You asked why churches no real reason just what I come across while out riding
-
Thank you, The churches were often designed to last until Doomsday, so out lived all the buildings of their era around them.
-
Ride after work visited 2 Essex windmills
-
Great pics :thumb:

Today I have ordered a set of Bridgestone A41's for the Tigger to replace the completely shagged Metzeler Tourance Nexts that came O/E. At 3,300 miles they managed to square off front and rear and wear badly on the shoulders both front & rear. Pleased to see the back of them to be honest.
-
Blimey both worn that badly at that mileage :wtf:
Good choice with the Bridgestones though hopefully you will get far better mileage from them 🤞
-
I fitted the rear wheel tonight and dropped the front off at the tyre fitters. He'd never seen such an unusually worn front tyre ! It's square, then heavily worn, almost flat and then back to the profile at the edges. Very odd and the one and only set of Metzeler Next's the bike will have on in it's life...
-
I don’t blame you it’s not a good advert for the metzeler next’s is it.
I wonder if you just had a bad pair ?
Did you ask the tyre fitter if you could have the front tyre back just to remind yourself of how bad it had worn lol
-
I had another look at it today and it's just unbelievable the way it has worn. He's actually going to send it back to the Metzeler importer to look at as it's so odd. However, I got my front wheel back today and now both are installed and ready to roll on new A41's -
-
That is good of the tyre dealer to do that I hope they get a answer to report to you
They look great enjoy scrubbing them in and safe riding :thumb:
-
I had a cracking day out today covering just over 200 miles (Kielder, Longtown, Silloth & home) and the new tyres are superb. Loads of feel, plenty of edge grip and you can really fire it out of corners. Very happy :)))
-
Glad you had a great ride scrubbing those new tyres in :thumb:
How did the tyres feel after 200 miles ?
-
Superb after 200 miles but we got off to a bad start as they were very noisy. This subsided after about 40 miles and by 200 they were virtually silent. I think it might have been the moulding 'spikes' which were rubbing on the front mudguard ? Really happy with the tyres and they have transformed the handling for the better.
-
It’s good to know the tyres came good for you :thumb:
I had the same last year I had PR 5s fitted on the v-Strom I rode out of the tyre fitters and they were also noisy and slippery as hell I had no confidence in them at all, I gingerly rode at first but after about 30 miles they started to feel a lot better I rode up to Hunstanton that day some 100 odd miles each way.
The PR5s have been and still are brilliant :thumb:
Glad your happy with the tyres and good to hear that they have improved the handling.
Ride hard ride safe
-
Interestingly, my mate is due a set of tyres and was thinking of going from PR4's to the newer PR5's. Any experience of the PR4's as a comparison to your PR5's ?
-
I'm needing a new pair for the V-Strom, had BT023's on as the last pair but the rear has worn at 6k miles (not bad? but was getting 8 - 10k miles out of the last 3 pairs of Anakee 3's with some tread left...just changed a couple of pairs because we were doing a 3/4k tour).
I was looking to go back to Anakee 3's but they seem to be in short supply (rear) or silly money. I saw your post and 'my man' can get Bridgestone A41's and fit them (ride in & out) for £261. I thought that was a reasonable price looking around at tyre only prices.
Interesting that you think they handle well.
I might take a punt & see how they go for me.
-
@NorthumBryan I had PR4s before the PR5s and they were a brilliant pair of tyres I did quite a lot of track days on the v-Strom using the PR4s and they performed really well in fact they out performed me lol
When it was time to replace them I actually went to buy another set of PR4s but they wasn’t available so went for the PR5s and apart from what I have already said about the first few miles they have been awesome I hope this helps your friend.
-
Nice one. it's difficult to change from tyres you 'know' to tyres you don't yet 'know' and it's an expensive mistake if you pick something that you just don't gel with. I think he'll probably go for the PR5's over his beloved PR4's which he's had on last three or four bikes.
Mick, take a punt on the A41's, you won't be disappointed and that's a solid price for ride in/ride out. Mine were £230 fitted but to loose wheels, not an issue at the rear of the Tigger as it's a single sided swing arm but the front took a bit more work and a slightly shonky jack...
-
£230 was good!
The best I could find for just the tyres was £237 but he would have charged £50 to fit both, (ride in/out) so he must get them at a decent price from his supplier.
First time I've used this chap so hoping he's OK.
Should be early next week. :thumb:
-
This is where I got my tyres from which is about 200 yds from my house. Convenient does not begin to describe it ! To be fair, he doesn't do ride in/ride out (like a lot of the more 'car' based tyre places) but he does a lot of motocross tyres so knows how to go on. He nursed my rim beautifully, mrs...

Ah STS they have sponsored a few of the speedway riders over the years :thumb:
-
Been out today in Kent on the v -Strom
Some pictures with port lympne animal park in the background
-
Had the A 41's fitted this morning. If it stays dry I might nip out and start the scrubbing in process. :thumb:
-
Managed to get out and did just short of 100 miles this afternoon. The tyres felt very good after about 50 miles but not sure if it was the tyres or the new shock absorber (fitted last week) or a bit of both. However I think I'm going to be pleased with them. :thumb:
-
Nice mick enjoy scrubbing them in :thumb:
Glad the new shock is working well :thumb:
-
Nice to get the tyres scrubbed in, mine were spot on by 100 miles. Still very happy with them and I hope you 'gel' with your set :thumb:
-
Cheers gents. :thumb:
-
This is my 68 plate Versys 1000. Bought a few weeks ago. It came to me with 1500 miles on the clock and three Main Dealer Services :hahaha: It was completely standard.
Anyway, let the modifications begin;
1. I sold a Kidney to buy the Kawasaki Top Box, this has a superb feature, if you take the key out and the lid closes, it is now locked and you better hope your key wasn't inside
2. Sat Nav Mount
3. Radiator Guard
4. Side Stand Foot
5. Bigpie Fusebox
6. Givi Airflow
Still to fit. Auxiliary lights & End Can.
-
Nice Mr Rat great choice of modifications :thumb:
-
Yes, looking good :thumb:
-
Today I had a run out with Morpethmatt heading North through Wooler, on to Coldstream and then up to Duns. From there we took the Longformacus road up & over the moors and then back down to St Abbs. Stopped off for a coffee & a buttie at Beadnel and then back to Morpeth. Around 175 miles on some wet roads, gravelly roads and finally some dry roads. The A41 Bridgestones are superb and have remarkable wet weather grip. I am a happy boy :)))
-
You've got some cracking roads up there! Had a great week earlier this year riding through the North Pennines, Northumberland national Park & Kielder.
Hope to get back out on mine in the next few days to test the A41's a bit more. :thumb:
-
Today I had a little trundle down the coast and then on into Newcastle. Sadly, the city centre was clogged with 'tards protesting about the vaccine (simply don't take it and die, problem solved...). I then had a run down to Hermod (https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/hermod247) on the Team Valley and lashed out on a pair of Richa laminated Goretex gloves. These have great feel and it's hard to believe they are actually lined as they feel so thin, very happy.
The pictures are - St Mary's lighthouse Whitley Bay, The low lights (with the high lights in the background) at Tynemouth Fish Quay and me new turtle doves.
-
:thumb:
-
Nice pictures sounded like a good run out :thumb:
-
On the NC750X Yesterday I added the last few miles needed for the first service with another trip to Oulton Broad for a coffee and a cake.
-
:thumb:
-
:thumb:
-
Today myself & Morpethmatt had a rather bracing run over the Hartside pass (temporary cafe closed which was a disappointment...) and then down to Pooley Bridge, which was absolutely busting at the seams with tourists. We gave that a miss and headed up to Carlisle, stopping off for a bite to eat before winding our way to Hadrian's wall and then on to Chollerford and the fabulous Riverside Kitchen cafe. This place is well worth a stop as the pies, quiches & cakes are top drawer. A nice trundle home and that wrapped off a near 200 mile round trip. It also takes me over 4,000 miles on the Tigger. Happy.
-
Nice run out glad you both had a good day :thumb:
-
:thumb:
-
My recently purchased heated seat arrived today. This was an absolute snip on ebay as the vendor had it listed in the wrong category and I only found it by chance. It's like new and off a 2020 Tigger just like mine. It's plug & play with three heat settings all ready installed & controlled by an existing switch on the handlebars. Happy to say the least - list price is around £350...
-
Go on, 'fess up - whadya pay for it?
-
Great find :thumb: I keep looking for one for my KTM 🤞
-
Go on, 'fess up - whadya pay for it?
£63 to the door :)))
-
I keep looking for one for my KTM
Keep on looking, I'd all but given up as I was reluctant to pay between £150 & £200 for a second hand one when this little beauty popped up. Always worth misspelling searches every now and again...
-
Sixty- thr......you sure you're not a Yorkshireman?
Bargain of the decade.
-
I'm sandwiched between 'canny Scots' and 'cautious Yorkshiremen' so maybe Northumberland is the capital of the careful spender ?
-
Wow that was a bargain :thumb:
-
I cracked open the big green box today and ran the Tigger up to temperature. This gave me the chance to fit the heated seat and give it a whirl. I have to say I was expecting it to be hotter but I think over a few hours that extra heat will be a godsend. The only downside is it seems to have a little bit less padding ? If it ever dries out again I'll have to take it for a long run to assess which is best.
-
Was the container nice and dry ?
Any sign of condensation?
Glad the seat worked ok for you was there any temperature setting on the seat or just on ?
Sorry about all the questions lol lol lol
-
No, it's fine. The container is remarkably dry and moisture free, The Tigger wasn't 100% dry when I last put it away but it's all nice & dry now. The container has 4 air vents per long side & 2 at the back which really work very well. I thought I was going to have to put a very small tube heater in but it's as dry as a bone in there.
The Tigger comes with three heat settings built in to the left hand switch cluster, low is barely perceptible, med is a very gentle heat and high is pleasant but not quite as hot as I would have liked. It will be a net gain on the heat front so has to be good for chilly days.
-
Took the Tigger out for a run along the coast to get a few miles on before winter and try out my heated seat. So the positives of the heated seat are it does give off a little bit of heat but could be warmer, but it does help keep you warm. It was 11c today and I didn't feel cold at all. The bad bit is I seem to have lost about 1/2" of legroom which is the last thing I need being on the lanky side. The jury is out at the moment...
Took some pics by the river in Blyth on the way home -
-
Glad the container had kept dry and moisture free always a bonus :thumb:
Glad you got out today to try out the heated seat, always good to still get out this time of year :thumb: shame you were not entirely happy with it 🤭
Nice pics lovely looking bike :thumb:
-
Thank you, the white metallic 'Snowdonia white' of the Alpine edition really comes to light with a bit of sun on it. Although I wasn't aware Snowdon was in the Alps...
-
Before I bought the KTM I went into the triumph dealer in Ashford to buy the tiger Alpine addition my wife and I was standing by the bike with a big smile on my face as at the time they were doing free luggage I was having a good look at the bike and we had decided I was going to buy a brand new one.
Well we waited and no sign of a salesman we must have waited a good 15 mins then a salesman appeared pushing a bike he ignored us and carried on doing what he was doing my wife went to find him to say we would like to buy a 1200 tiger alpine addition, he came through the door and shouted from the other side of the show room they are all sold and we are not getting anymore then disappeared out the back so I said f++k this place and walked out and went to the KTM dealers in Ashford where they were completely different and couldn’t do enough for you and bought the 1290 super Adventurer S.
-
Rightly so, I would have done the same thing - no excuse for poor service. I have to say I've heard more than a few 'mutterings' about Trumpet dealers but I have to say the bunch at the toon have been spot on. Might just be a Geordie thing ?
I have to admit I could have been lured to the 'orange side' if we still had a KTM dealer in Newcastle. My nearest dealer is 71 miles away (Teasdales) who are brilliant, but still 71 miles away. I used to take my former Moto Guzzi Stelvio there and they were top notch. Ian Bell Yamaha is only a 1 1/2 mile away but Yamaha have nothing I like at the moment. The Tenere 700 is a fabulous bike but I've got more arse than it's got seat...
-
lol lol I like that lol lol
Everything seems better up north :thumb: I used to have friends in Sunderland when I used to go up to see them when we went out everyone seemed so friendly and really made you welcome (sadly Dave died a few years ago )
We send our products at work all over the country and when the lorry’s turn up for there loads the northern boys are always spot on :thumb:
-
Today I dropped my tigger seat off with Les at Saddlecraft (https://www.saddlecraft.co.uk/) to have a gel pad fitted. I was genuinely horrified when Les showed me how little padding there was on the stock Triumph seat. Holding it you can easily press down to the plastic base in places and when you look it's only about an 1" of foam in places ! No wonder it starts to get a bit uncomfortable after a hundred miles or so... It's a 6/700 mile a day bike with a 3/400 mile a day seat. I'm confident the gel pad will sort out the comfort or at the very least improve it immensely. Interestingly, Les showed me what makes a Triumph 'comfort' seat - it's a 3" x 6" strip of 1/4" gel in a fabric holder stuffed under the stock seat foam. What a waste of money and what a rip off Triumph.
-
I got my first ride of the year out of the way, a steady 76 miles up the coast, across through Alnwick to Rothbury and then home. I stopped of at Rothbury for a cuppa and a bit chinwag with some total strangers, the beauty of being on a bike. It was great to be back out again, picture of the Tigger parked at Rothbury. Mind you, it took a bit of cleaning when I got back home...
-
Glad you got out for a ride today and how did the seat feel with the gel pad you had fitted ?
Your tigger is a lovely looking bike NorthunBryan :thumb:
-
Cheers :thumb: I'm running my 'winter' seat at the moment, I picked up a genuine heated seat off eBay for peanuts last year which was a blessing today I can tell you. Quite eager to try the new seat but it'll be a few weeks yet as Les is stowed off with work.
-
Oh right sorry I obviously didn’t read the Ist post properly lol
I saw lots of bikes out today as it has been sunny here all day, but still very cold and there was a quite hard frost this morning and the gritters were out last night so lots of the dreaded salt about :crying:
-
We also had the gritters out last night and my car resembles an ice lolly, even the bird bath is frozen solid. It's glorious sunshine today so I might press gang the Mrs into a walk down to the river Wansbeck & back.
-
I was showing my mate around my refurbished garage last night and he wanted to hear the Tigger fire up. I popped back in the house to get the keys, fired it up and bugger me the message '30 days until your next service' appeared as if by magic on the TFT dash. So, I've booked it in for it's first annual service on Saturday the 9th of April. If the weather holds I might get a few more miles on before then.
-
lol isn’t that just typical at least you have got it booked in :thumb:
Now we are in to march the weather should hopefully start improving 🤞
So we all should be able to start getting out vrrr
-
I hope so, I really enjoyed getting out last weekend for a bit :thumb:
-
If correct, the weather forecast for here, in Derbyshire, looks to be OK next week so hoping to get out for more than a quick 10/20 miles. Plus a full English cooked by someone other than me!!! :thumb:
-
Finally managed to get out today. A gentle 90(ish) miles in excellent weather. Mostly hazy sunshine & temps around 15*!!
No full breakfast but managed a sausage & egg COB at The Yonderman, followed by a nice piece of flapjack. Great to be out for a few hours.
-
That’s brilliant glad you managed to get out, sometimes you don’t need a full breakfast 🍳 but the sausage & egg cob followed by flapjack sounded lovely :thumb:
-
Great to be out for a few hours.
Indeed it is, hoping to get out this weekend with Morpethmatt :thumb:
-
Myself & Morpethmatt had a cracking run out today. We had a bit of a coast & castle theme going on heading North up the Northumberland coast to Bamburgh before cutting inland to Wooler for a cuppa and a scone. From there we headed up to Scotland through Kirk Yetholm and on to Jedburgh and then back down through Otterburn on the A68 and then back to Morpeth. It was around 150 miles in bright sunshine but a bit bracing at times. Pics are of Warkworth Castle, Bamburgh Castle and the border at Carter Bar.
-
Very nice. The wife & myself did enjoy our week up in that area. :thumb:
Hopefully out for a little run again tomorrow.
-
Looked like a great run out also great pictures. :thumb:
-
Hopefully out for a little run again tomorrow.
Enjoy, might be the best day of the weekend :thumb:
-
Looked like a great run out also great pictures.
Cheers, I'm making a conscious effort to take more pictures with great Northumbrian backdrops in them. It's super scenic and I forget that sometimes...
-
Just interested on what fuel you used yesterday did you still have the premium fuel in the tank ? And if you did have to fill up did have to refuel with E10 or E5 ?
As I will not be able to ride for a few months now, I was wondering how much a litre of fuel will be by then :bang:
My wife filled my car up for me the other day ( as it is a bigger car to take me for my hospital appointments) at our local Asda £169 a litre for diesel :wtf:
-
I really hope you omitted a decimal point there!
-
lol lol yea sorry
-
I really hope you omitted a decimal point there!
lol lol lol
-
I used E10 at (I think £1.72 per litre ?) at Jedburgh. I find the Tigger feels a little 'flat' on E10 compared with 'full fat' petrol, especially the 98 octane 'good stuff'. Mind you, it's still bloody nippy on E10 !
-
Thank you for your reply :thumb:
Sadly I never got to use the KTM on full fat petrol 😠
In fact all 4 bikes are brimmed full of full fat so I can not wait to be able to ride again realistically it going to be at least 4 months :bang:
Happy riding and stay safe :thumb:
-
realistically it going to be at least 4 months
Bugger, it's going to seem like a lifetime but (fingers crossed) you'll still catch a bit of summer when you're able. In the meantime live your biking life vicariously on the internet :thumb:
-
Had a run out in Leicestershire today with another member of the V-Strom forum. Great day with fairly quiet roads & plenty of sunshine. Oh, & food/cake/coffee etc
Filled the bike from a local (Gulf) petrol station with E5 before we set off @ £1.76 litre. (£0.11 more than the E10)
That station is always a couple of p's cheaper than others around here, I think, because it's all 'pay at the pump', there are no staff on duty.
PS, called into the Triumph factory at Hinkley for the cake.
-
Sounds like a cracking run out :thumb:
-
Sounded like a great run out mick was it with josh by any chance ?
Glad you are getting out and sampling cake 🍰 etc lol
I hope your good lady was on pillion ?
-
Yes
Me too
Yes
:thumb:
-
Today myself & Morpethmatt had a run up to Kielder reservoir and then on to Newcastleton, over the moors to Langholm and then up the A7 to Hawick. From there we headed back through Bonchester Bridge and then back down the A68 and then the A696 and then cut across country & home. Well over 150 miles and on some cracking roads. I even bagged another trio of Northumbrian castles too, with Bothal, Mitford & Kielder. Kielder water was surprisingly calm and was just like a giant mirror today - very rare ! Nice day out.
-
sounded like you had a great run out the both of you. great pictures :thumb:
-
Yes, had a belting run out :thumb:
-
I forgot to mention, diesel was £194.9 at the self serve Kielder garage. Eeeek ! I think petrol was about 10p a litre cheaper but I was transfixed by the price of diesel.... Mind you, where it is it's worth every penny if you're gasping.
-
:wtf: £194.9 for diesel this is getting out of hand ……. :bang:
-
Today saw the Tigger in for it's first annual service with a modest 4,500 miles on the clock. It took about two hours and I filled myself with courtesy coffee & biscuits while I waited. I declined all attempts to get me on a Rocket 3 GT because if I liked it I'd have ended up buying one...
But, and here's the kicker, the Tigger needs a new rear shock absorber. Bugger me with a splintered fence post. This does not fill me with confidence but thankfully it was spotted by the tech' (I salute you sir) and is under warranty. Due to the fact it's semi-active & electronically adjustable it's not a straight forward fix and piggin' expensive. The service gadgie reckons it'll come in at around £1,800.00 + VAT with the labour on. Eeeek !
-
Foxeye fork seals. Again. Every bloody year. Get the MOT pass early next week then I'll get my spare forks refurbished and fitted.
-
It's a bugger when it's repetitive....
-
that not what you wanted to hear, that’s not good mate glad it under warranty.
A mate has got the same tigger as you and he has also had the same happen to him he rides hard and he thought he had a puncture, but he carried on and the same thing happened so he limped it to the dealers he bought it from and he also needs a new rear shock but unfortunately his bike was out of warranty, he has had a quote of over 2K.
It’s not a good advert for a otherwise cracking bike, all the best with it mate :thumb:
-
Cheers, it does rather take the gloss off what has been an otherwise cracking bike.
-
Was it the mechanical or electrical side that went udders uppermost?
-
The shock has a little oil leakage, it's not bad but you can see it on the damper rod (now it's been pointed out). I'm very fussy when I clean the bike and I've never noticed it but it is pretty much hidden on the 1200. It sits inside the swing arm with the linkage obscuring the bottom section so very difficult to get a look at. You can see the top of the shock from one side but not where it would be leaking from, it needs a proper crawl around on the floor to see the weep !
-
That's a bugger about the shock. I hope it's not a bad sign for the rest of the bike!!
-
NorthumBryan I have just spoke to my mate with the tigger he said an OE white power shock is £840 he thinks, the internals of the shock goes and it throws everything out of cynic as the front and rear are electronic and all connected to the TPS, his started to ride horrible.
I don’t think yours sounds as bad as that, as yours as just started weeping you might be able to have it reworked? Still a pain in preverbail especially this time of year when you need to ride it, hope you get on ok with it all :thumb:
-
That's a bugger about the shock. I hope it's not a bad sign for the rest of the bike!!
It does put a bit of doubt in the old grey matter...
-
Hi my mate has just rung me again he spoke to Pete Clark at Triumph Hinckley HQ top bloke very helpful, and also he recommended Darren at MCT suspension in stowmarket they do a lot of stuff for the BSB teams.
Hope this helps :thumb:
-
Well yesterday got the service sorted on the Varadero ready for my camping trip in Snowdonia next weekend.
Oil and filter, chain clean and lube, top up scottoiler, cleaned and oiled the K&N air filter.
Genrral wash over.
Shouldn't have bothered with the air filter, it was faily clean with just a few flies in there. But as I'd gone to the ffort of removing the plastics and tank.
-
@ Mr _diver always good to get a service on a bike, hope you have a good safe trip and hope the weather is kind to you :thumb:
-
i remember it's a fair old bit of work to get the tank off the Varadero. I did mine once and I pretty much regretted doing it right up until I was finished, it was that sort of job.
-
Today myself & Morpethmatt had a run up & around the borders. We headed up through Wooler, turned right at Coldstream and headed for Duns. From Duns we did the 'loop' over the moors through Cranshaws and Longformacus and back to Duns where we attempted to stop for a cuppa but the queues were too long. Plan 'B' for a cuppa was Berwick-upon-Tweed but that was rammed out so we headed back over to Wooler via Doddington. Cuppa secured we then headed over to Rothbury for yet more tea and then back to Morpeth where the day started. A cracking day out and I remembered to take a picture of the statue of Wojtek - the soldier bear in Duns.
Wojtek was a Syrian brown bear bought, as a young cub, at a railway station in Hamadan, Iran, by Polish II Corps soldiers who had been evacuated from the Soviet Union. In order to provide for his rations and transportation, he was eventually enlisted officially as a soldier with the rank of private, and was subsequently promoted to corporal. He accompanied the bulk of the II Corps to Italy, serving with the 22nd Artillery Supply Company. During the Battle of Monte Cassino, in Italy in 1944, Wojtek helped move crates of ammunition and became a celebrity with visiting Allied generals and statesmen. After the war, mustered out of the Polish Army, he was billeted and lived out the rest of his life at the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. You genuinely couldn't make it up !
-
That sounded like a great ride for you both :)))
Great picture of wojtek what a great story.
How did the shock hold up ?
-
Cheers, the shock has been fine. I gave the bike some 'soapy love' when I got home and the gave it a bit of a dry down with a very soft fluffy cloth. I popped it back in the garage to let it drip dry overnight. It's amazing how much water the radiator area holds and there is always a puddle of water underneath, I think it's the shape of the bodywork holding water against the radiator ends or it could be the ally bash plate ? Anyhooo, I had a quick peak around the shock today and I can see only the faintest of traces of oil on the damper rod. There is no sign of oil running off anywhere and there are no drops of oil 'hanging' so it's really minor. I had a bit of a paranoid adjustment of the suspension yesterday and on the hardest (sport) setting it's far too uncomfortable for bumpy Northumbrian back roads but setting it back to the comfort end of the spectrum it's fine. I am keeping a close eye on it however as it's very close to the rear tyre...
Oh, off to see the Speedway at Newcastle tonight. We've not been for years but I remember it was a hoot watching these incredibly skinny bikes take off like a bat out of hell on gravel ! If the light quality is good enough I'll try and rattle a couple of pics off.
-
Oh that’s good it is only a minor weep :thumb: yes just keep an eye on it, I know it will be on your mind but if you can make it last until the end of Summer and it will be a good winter project.
Brilliant that you are going to Newcastle speedway tonight Edinburgh are there tonight so should be a good meeting hope you enjoy it :thumb:
We live streamed Poole vs Oxford on good Friday which was a one way affair,
Oxford speedway has reopened after being closed for 15 years so that is excellent news and my mate is there captain so obviously we are supporting them lol
And also he is captain for Peterborough panthers in the premiership.
Hope you have a good evening at the speedway and look forward to seeing some pics :thumb:
-
Cheers, I think speedway is having a little bit of a revival; Newcastle nearly went under a couple of years ago and a new owner has come in who is really trying. The stadium is having to earn it's keep with multiple events such as the dog racing but also it's getting used by community groups too. There are a lot of things vying for your cash at the moment up in Newcastle such as the basketball, rugby (league and union) and the local sunday league football side...
It's going to be tough to keep going but once it's gone it'll be gone for good as the site will make prime building ground for either houses or a retail development. nice to see Oxford back and I genuinely hope this is a revival for speedway. These would also be ideal to convert to electric too, short races, high torque motors and virtually silent will keep the councils off their backs from noise complaints too. Could be the future ?
-
They have tried motorcross engines (fourstroke ) to keep the cost down they called it formula 2 speedway but I don’t think it was very successful, but I like your idea of electric power maybe you are on to something there?
Yes you are right so many speedway tracks have closed down over the years and as you say for prime building land, my local track was Rayleigh Rockets which closed down in 1973 and the land was sold off to build a retail park which still stands today, incidentally the Rockets moved to Rye house and run until sadly closing halfway through the 2019 season and Scott was also captain there as well lol
-
OK, so not strictly what I've done on my bike but following on from the previous conversation here are a couple of pics from last nights speedway in Newcastle. We had a great time and were surprised by the number of people there, a great crowd with a lot of support for the Edinburgh Monarchs (who won by 8 points). Newcastle were hamstrung by two DNF's due to machine failure by the same rider and an exclusion, also the same rider... But to be fair Edinburgh looked a well set up team with some top riders.
-
I've never understood Speedway :wtf:
To me it's like the 2 wheel equivalent of Nascar, which sucks big time, only slightly more entertaining vrrr
-
I have to say I am surprised that more bikers don't go to speedway events; I only saw three people last night who were clearly on bikes. I guess it's because it's so alien to how you ride either on road or even off road ? It's incredibly skilful with these little, lightweight (minimum weight 77kg - just 77kg eeek), methanol fueled, 85hp monsters flying around corners sideways. Myself & the Mrs had a great time last night and we found a great spot to watch just before the start line so you could see how much work was involved in the launch. I do get how it's not for everyone, especially if you've been brought up on track or road racing.
-
Hi glad you and your mrs had a great time at the speedway and thank you for the pics :thumb:
Yes I agree it’s not for everyone but I have been a supporter since my brother took me to Ipswich to see the witches in 1972, I have had ago back in the day but was useless ( not built for speedway lol) and still have a bike one of Scott Nicholls
Here are a few pictures

Better picture of my speedway bike

:goodpost:
Fantastic pics :thumb: And who wouldn't want a speedway bike ???
-
Just in case you are interested this is a link to the speedway portal which lets you keep an eye lots of different meetings heat by heat, Belle vue - wolves are racing now and the return of that match is tonight, and Peterborough vs Kings lynn is 5 pm tonight. https://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/
-
Cheers for the link, great website. I noticed the commentators mentioned one of the Edinburgh lads was racing today (B/H Monday) for a team and the later on for another ! These folks must do loads of miles between events.
-
You are welcome 👍 yes you will find a lot of riders ride in both leagues (premiership & championship) and they ride most nights of the week all over the country and if someone is out injured the Teams get a guest rider in ( as Newcastle did yesterday with Chris Harris), a lot of the top riders ride in Poland on a Sunday & in Sweden & Denmark mid week ( but there league clubs take priority over the foreign leagues) we will be keeping an eye on the Peterborough - Kings Lynn meeting tonight. Peterborough were league champions last season. because of the age of the team they had the nickname “Dads Army” Scott for example will be 44 in may!!
-
Crikey, 44 is a good age to be hustling one of these missiles around a tight oval. Fair play to the lad, he must be super fit :thumb:
-
He had a shoulder operation over the winter, he has only done 4 meetings so far this year, if you get time have a look at the portal it starts at 5 👍
-
i shall have a peruse when I get a chance, sounds good :thumb:
-
I have been a supporter since my brother took me to Ipswich to see the witches in 1972
I thought East Anglian/Suffolk witches still looked like this

lol you are probably right lol

I had a cracking run out in the borders today with my mate Davey on his rocket ship of a K1200GT BMW. We went on some really obscure, little used roads up by Roadhead and ended up covering 170 miles. Loads of tea, loads of banter and some decent weather, grand day out.
I've also got the Tigger booked in for it's replacement rear shocker on Friday the 13th of May, what could possibly go wrong with that...
-
Sounded like you had a cracking days riding :thumb:
Great news for getting your tigger booked in for the shock replacement, it will be fine 🤞🤞
-
Good to hear the shock is to be sorted.
I don't believe in all this superstition stuff...... although I refuse to walk under a black cat!!
-
I have to confess to not being superstitious either, although I do try not to walk under ladders as I know how easy (and often) things fall off them !
-
I worked for BT for best part of 40 years and a good few of those involved climbing ladders & poles. Before Health & Safety became a thing we would work with all sorts of tools up them. Quite a few got dropped......I was lucky, I managed not to hit anyone or damage anything. :thumb:
I think you worked in similar circumstances?
-
Yes, I did 20 years as an overhead linesman for 'Geordie Juice' before getting clever... Many, many stories to tell. But, pictures speak a thousand words so here is me in various overhead locations. The towers were at Seaton Delaval and Bebside, both very close to where I live now. Not very good quality as they are pictures of pictures but I'm the chump in mid-air launched from the tower in picture 1. Picture 3 was at Bebside where we converted a 66kV tower to run at 20kV to save building a new overhead line. We were just about to drag a very heavy steel wire armoured cable up the tower with the landrover winch. Happy days !
-
:thumb: too high for me!!!! I would Cinnamon Swirl myself when I had to climb the big 'trunk route' poles way back in the 70's. They would have been around 60' if memory recalls. Too f*****g high for me anyway!! lol
-
NorthumBryan wow you wouldn’t get me up there  I doff my cap to both you and Mick B …. I suppose it’s what you get used to ? But I am terrible going up a ladder but on the other hand 10 floors up in a hotel or something I am ok leaning over the balcony lol
-
To be fair I wouldn't get up there these days, I live in a bungalow so a set of stairs has me wheezing....
-
lol lol
-
lol
-
Just a little story about climbing things.......
I hadn't climbed a ladder higher than to clean the bedroom windows nor any poles for about 20 years when I decided we needed a new TV aerial on the gable end of the house.....no problem, been there done that me thinks!
So got the ladder out put on a pair of trainers to grip the tiles (no roof ladder....who needs H&S at home) and proceeded to climb up to the apex with the new aerial and sat on the ridge tiles sorting it. The height never occurred to me until I stood up to 'walk' back down the roof to the ladder. "F**K me" I say to myself, "that's not safe"!!! Stating the bleedin' obvious. lol
After shouting the wife to ring my brother to go to a mates to fetch a roof ladder I sat on the roof for a good half an hour for him to come round. :shy:
-
Your trainers must've been grippier than Rod Hull's.
-
Class Mick, class :)))
-
Bloody hell mick
-
Little ride out today. The first for a couple of weeks. Went up to Ladybower & had a bite to eat. Stopped on the way back for an ice cream. Just short of 100 miles but very enjoyable.
-
Nice one :thumb:
-
Today saw the Tigger dropped off at Triumph Newcastle to have it's rear shock replaced under warranty tomorrow. To get me home I managed to blag the Tiger 900 Rally Pro demonstrator until tomorrow night when I get the 'bigger tigger' back. It's a hoot to ride and feels so light in comparison. The engine is a modern miracle and pulls almost as hard as my 1200 does from 2000 rpm to 7000 rpm, the 1200 has a cheeky top end rush which the 900 cannot match. In all honesty it is a true gem of an engine and if you get the chance take one for a test ride. I've never been a fan of 21" front wheels but the steering is so light and neutral you would think it was a 17" item fitted. Loads of feel and plenty of grip but the beastie Brembo Monoblocks can get the front tyre squealing with just a gentle pull of the brake lever. it's fairly comfy but I would have liked the pegs a bit further back and a set of bar risers. It has heated grips & seats as standard and has a very nice, clear & easy to read TFT dash.
However, the big fly in the ointment for me is the screen. This thing just generates noise & buffeting and is even worse on the higher setting. As I'm typing this now my ears are buzzing, despite ear plugs and a very quiet Shark helmet. It's a shame as it's a very good bike (except the colour scheme, but they do some nice colours as well) let down badly by a poorly designed fairing screen. And it's got a chain...
-
It’s good of them to give you a demonstrator to borrow 👍 always good to ride different bikes, glad you are getting the shock replaced under warranty👍
-
:thumb: nice you got to 'test' ride another triumph. Good review as well.
-
Cheers folks. I've got the 'big un' back and what a difference, soooo much more comfortable. The 900 is surprisingly sprightly but the 1200 just has that little bit more everywhere, especially at the top end where is is noticeably more brisk. It's very blustery up here today but I had a very nice run home behind a very large piece of plastic which didn't try to deafen me. Couldn't feel any difference whatsoever with the new shock, but that's maybe a good thing? Happy to have it back and very pleased I've not had to stump up £1,800...
Oh, I had a chance to sit on the new 1200 Tiger, it's almost identical in size & riding position to the 900 but with a lot more go. The screen looks a bit more promising than the 900 but still seems very short. It definitely feels lighter than mine but not the 25kg lighter that it is (or is claimed to be). Frightened to test drive one in case I like it....
-
Great that you have yours back :thumb:
Well done for only sitting on the new 1200 don’t test ride it as you know what will happen lol lol
-
I know....
Mind you, I have been keeping an eye on the Tiger 12 forum I often frequent and it seems there are a few people complaining of hand numbing vibration on the new 1200. This seems to also afflict the 900, possibly the new 'T' plane crank ? It doesn't affect everyone and I certainly didn't notice any nuisance vibes on the 900 I had. It would make me a bit cautious of parting with my cash unless I got a proper test ride I suspect. Oh, and the screen adjusts itself back to the lowest setting if you go over a series of bumps. Good old Triumph, if ain't broke - break it !
-
lol
Indeed good old triumph lol…. Having said that the build quality of my old Trophy is superb :thumb:
Are you thinking of changing yours then? It was a good review you did for the 900 did you relay your findings to the dealer ?
-
We normally wouldn't go out on a weekend (save the road space for those who work ) but saw that the Lancaster was out & about fairly local so thought we might go & see it.
We rode up to Hardwick Hall & found a nice spot on a bit of a hill overlooking a valley I hoped the plane would fly up . We got lucky. :) Finished the day with an ice cream.....as you do.
https://youtu.be/dNUOZ75uj8Y
-
Are you thinking of changing yours then? It was a good review you did for the 900 did you relay your findings to the dealer ?
Like the Mrs my bikes are under constant review. I really can't see anything on the market that I would change for, I don't need more power, I like shaft drive and it needs to be spacious as there is quite a lot of me ! I don't think I could risk a GS as I know so many people that have had absolute nightmares with them so that's a none starter. At 18 month I've had this a while for me so it must be a keeper lol
Yes, I gave the dealer a good debrief and he agreed with my findings. I suggested they get a couple of after market screens in so people could try an alternative set up. He thought it would be a great idea but Triumph wouldn't like it.
-
Cracking video Mick - what a sound :thumb:
-
Brilliant video mick love the Lancaster always a pleasure to see it fly :thumb:

I had a nice little trundle out today with Morpethmatt. We were both a bit subdued as one of our friends has passed away at the weekend aged only 59... We think it was a heart attack as it was sudden but Gordon seemed to be in good health and it has been a complete shock. Anyhow, we had a trundle up through Wooler, past Ford & Etal castles and then on to Berwick where we stopped off at the fabulous Chandlery for a bite to eat (we even got pole position parking places). We then headed to the other side of the Tweed to Spittal and then we had a run down to Holy Island but the tide tables suggested it would be foolish to cross so we just took a couple of pictures instead. We then weaved our way through some really obscure, single track roads in darkest Northumberland before stopping off at Rothbury for more tea and a gawp at all the bikes. We then headed home and nearly got away with it but we caught 10 minuets of 'nuisance rain' - bugger. Still it was a great day out and cheered us both up.
The pics are the Chandlery in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Holy Island causeway and Viscount Hugh Gough's statue at Chillingham Castle.
Oh, I went through the 5,000 mile mark on the Tigger today :thumb:
-
Condolences of the loss of your friend 😞
Nothing better than a ride out for you both to take your minds of off other things, shame you managed to find a drop of nuisance rain but sounded like you had a great days riding with some stops for grub and drinks :thumb:
-
Cheers, most appreciated.
-
Looked like a good day out. Always sad when someone so young passes away, worse when it's a friend. Condolences to you, his family & friends.
-
Cheers Mick, appreciated.
-
Today I got a phone call to say my seat was completed and was ready to pick up from Saddlecraft (https://www.saddlecraft.co.uk/) in South Shields after having a gel pad installed. I sneaked off from work and darted down to get it and feel it's squidgy gel loveliness which will (hopefully) cosset my bottom over the summer months. I've popped it on the bike and put the heated one away in the garage for later in the year. It feels soooo much better than stock and looks exactly the same as the original cover was re-used. Happy thus far, but a run out will tell how much of a difference has been made.
-
Nice :thumb: be interested to know what’s it like once you rode a few miles :thumb:
-
I hope it's as good as the one he did for my former Super Tenere 1200. I did 670 miles one day on that and felt surprisingly fresh when I got off the bike.
-
Took it out of the garage , where it's sat for a couple of weeks, and gave it a quick check over. Tyres pressure, brakes, coolant, chain etc, oil was changed 500 miles back & level OK, as we're off to Scotland on Sunday for the week.
Staying in Pitlochry and only got three full days so will be spending it riding around the east side between Inverness, Perth & Aberdeen.
Just hoping the weather holds.....not fussed about the sun not shining but could do without any rain!!! :thumb:
oops, sorry it's Scotland forget that last bit! lol
Hope to have a few photos to post on our return.
-
Enjoy your holibobs Mick. I know what you mean about the weather, I already have my 'rain badge' I don't need any more...
-
Keep the rubber side down :thumb:
-
Cheers gents. :thumb:
-
Today I had a very off-beat trundle through some very obscure single track roads in Northumberland and Cumbria. We stopped off at Alston for a cuppa and a bite to eat at Hickins' cafe which is part of the station building at the South Tynedale heritage railway. It's a great place to stop off and not usually as busy as the other cafe's in the town. From there we headed up over Hartside and then on to Gretna Green before coming back along Hadrian's Wall. A grand day out and I covered 200 miles, thoroughly testing out my new gel-padded seat which gets a big thumbs up from me.
Pic at the station with Morpethmatt mooching about in the background.
-
Sounded like you both had a great days riding vrrr
And good to hear that your gel seat gets a thumbs up 👍
-
Cheers :thumb: It's seat number 4 I've had done at Saddle Craft and they always do a cracking job whether it's a simple gel pad or a re-foam, gel pad & re-cover it always comes out looking great. Just in time for my Wales trip next weekend.
-
Great week in Scotland although we did get a little damp on occasions......sorry I'll correct that, we got piss wet through every day!! lol
Yesterday was the first day without rain & we stayed dry all the way home.
We stopped in Longtown, just up the road from Gretna Green, for B&B yesterday. We got there a bit early so after checking in we decided to have a ride out, doing another 100 plus miles to get this photo. :thumb:
In Scotland you have to leave the Highlands to visit the highest village in Scotland, because it's in the Lowlands? :wtf:
-
I started a (possibly overdue) service on the 100cc Quad that is raced at the August meet at Bikers Campsite.
-
It that a bit of Helman's I see there Mr Rat ???
-
I can tell you it's not very tasty :)))
-
I'm sure it could be worse. One of my friends changed the oil on his very old & very tired Iveco van recently and found several bits of piston ring trapped in the oil filter. It's still going, just not very well...
-
I'm astonished that little Quad is still running, although, it is a bit like Triggers broom, it has had more replaced parts over the years than I care to remember :fix:
-
lol lol lol

Tonight saw the luggage affixed to the Tigger ready to head off for Glossop tomorrow. The plan is to head over the moors to Middleton-in-Teesdale, over to Brough, down to Devils Bridge and then on to Glossop with numerous stops for tea & cake along the way. Friday sees us heading to Prestatyn via, weather permitting, Lake Vyrnwy for the run out. Saturday is free so probably a loop around Snowdonia or if it's wet a day on the lash... Sunday and it's trundle home and then back to work on Monday as if it had never happened.
On a work front we have submitted our formal tender to National Grid to participate in Pathfinder 3 (artificial inertia & grid stability) which is two chapters longer than War & Peace... We now have a couple of months peace before we find out if we've been successful. Then if we are it's panic stations as we recruit staff and build a £30,000,000 synchronous condenser !
Note GB Bikers decal proudly displayed on my top box :thumb:
-
Nice. We do enjoy playing out up past Middleton, where Dales scenery gives way to wide open North Pennines vistas. Hope the weather behaves.
-
Enjoy. Sounds like a nice run. Hope the weather holds for you. :thumb:
-
Bike looks good with the luggage, sounds a nice trip hope the weather holds for you :thumb:
On a work front sounds like you are going to be busy lol
-
Not today, but last week. Went to Scotland for a few days.
We had four nights in a caravan ten miles west of Pitlochry, with a night's B&B each side.
Had a great time with three full days of rides out. We got a bit very wet on a few days, particularly the Wednesday when we went to Glencoe, Fort William & Spean Bridge.
Tried a few Scottish culinary delights, obviously a few Scottish breakfasts (only one with Haggis though), Arbroath Smokies, a deep fried Mars bar & of course an ice cream or three. I was surprised how nice the Mars bar was, I certainly wasn't expecting it to be palatable.
A few photos

Cracking pics sir :thumb:

Spent the last 20 minutes trying to figure out which is the ON button on my Interphone headset and another 15 mins pairing it to my current phone lol
Haven't used it for the last 3 years ....

Nice pics :thumb:
Hope you were happy with your new bike ?
-
Needs a bit of love and care, as in braided hoses and suspension way too soft for my liking. Other than that vrrr vrrr vrrr vrrr vrrr vrrr :)))
-
Nice, pleased you're getting on with it. I was up the cat & fiddle on Friday and it was sunny but a bit blustery.
-
Today the Tigger got the wash it should have had on Sunday but I was too knackered and opted for a hot bath instead. After chucking a bucket of wash & wax at it, it's come up looking like new again :thumb:
-
Looking like new again :thumb:
-
I went out for a few hours today, nowhere in particular but it still took three hours. vrrr
-
:thumb: vrrr This rarely, if ever, happens when out in the car.
-
:thumb:
-
Today saw a second hand (but nearly new) Powerbonze screen turn up to try on the Tigger. I Have the taller Triumph screen in dark tint with a little spoiler which works OK but this was only £40 on the Tigger forum so I thought it was worth a try as I'll easily get that on eBay if I don't like it. It's about 10mm shorter than the current screen but has a very pronounced 'V' to it's shape so should deflect air to the sides. I'll give it a try over the weekend and see what I think.
-
Sounds like a good purchase hope it works ok for you, will be interested in your findings :thumb:
-
Bought some mounts for my Ghost XL and older GoPro cameras. Think I'll have the Ghost forward facing and the GoPro rear facing for now.
Still trying to decide whether or not to take the VFR up to Matlock on Sunday or give the 'Blade it's first outing since last September.....
-
I have mounts in different places on my bikes and helmets just to get different Angles/shots there are great mounts available now days :thumb:
Give the blade a run out if it’s ready to go ?
-
For the first time in a while I was able to get the bike out for a spin after work. It's not often I get the chance but it was nice to put a few miles on as the sun was starting to slowly drop. I had a bimble up the coast and on the way back stopped of at the Queen Elizabeth 2nd park near Ashington. It's usually a mass of sea birds, Swans and people feeding them but was ominously quiet tonight, we have had a lot of the Avian Flu in the area so it might be that ? Who knows ? I'd forgotten how gravelly the car park was too...
-
Glad you managed to get out after work. I used to love a ride after work. It looked a nice place you stopped at 😀
Yes I noticed the gravel, I am always wary on gravel especially 2 up lol
-
I had one of those 'bugger, I forgot the gravel' moments, but it was worth if for a nice sunny pic :thumb:
-
I got out on the bike today for a few hours and ended up out until just after dark ! The Mrs kicked me out and said 'go have some fun' so I did. I realised this is the first time I've ridden this bike at night. I have to say the LED headlights are amazing an easily as good as any car I've had, very impressive.
-
Glad you managed to get out today mate just what you needed to take your mind off of all that’s going on :thumb:
-
:goodpost:
Cheers, I feel a lot better today and it just show's what a good run out on the bike can do :thumb:
-
Today the tigger was treated to a new rear tyre or booler as we say up here. It's replaced the horribly squared off set that has lasted me around 5,000 miles, a bit of a record for me. They've been great tyres and it didn't take a lot of thought to stump up for a second set. The front will be back tomorrow night and I'll give it a right good clean while i can access it easily.
-
:thumb:

Hope you had a nice holiday mate?
Always good to find a good tyre you are confident with and suits your riding style :thumb:
-
Cheers, I'll post a bit up about the holiday when I can see properly. I've picked up an eye infection and everything is a little blurry. I'll be fine in a couple of days, if it's not one thing it's something else...
-
What tyre is that Bryan? I don't recognise the tread pattern
-
It's a Bridgestone A41, my second set on the tigger after the horrible O/E Metzeler Next.
-
Sorry to hear about your eye infection hope it clears up soon 🤞
-
Eye infection sorted and the tigger has had some soapy love after it's 1,200 trek through Europe last week. The ferry was interesting as we had to go back to Ijmuiden as a crew member had a 'medical emergency'. Still got in to North Shields on time the next day however.
-
Glad the eye infection is sorted :thumb:
And the Tigger has had its Bath lol
-
I took the tigger out for a trundle to scrub the new tyres in on freakishly quiet roads, very eerie.
-
Today I finally got around to fitting a Delkevic stainless steel exhaust to the tigger. I picked this up very cheap second hand on eBay and it's been languishing around the garage for a while. It took about 10 mins to fit from start to finish which was a surprise at how easy it was, probably down to the single sided swing arm rather than my mechanical genius...
Anyhow, it's a lot quieter than I was expecting (about the same as the O/E Arrow exhaust) but does sound a bit fruitier when the rpm goes up a bit. We'll see how it goes at the weekend. From some homework on various Triumph forums the stock map is more than capable of compensating for an end can, pics below -
-
Today i put the heated seat back on the bike. It's that time of year. No idea how long it will be until the salt hits the roads but it's starting to get a bit cooler up in Northumberland...
-
Yes the weather is definitely starting to change good call for fitting the heated seat :thumb:
-
Today, after a cracking run around some deserted single track roads in the borders, I hit the 8,000 mile mark on the tigger. The heated seat came into it's own as it was only 10c when we set off, peaking at a balmy 13c at one point.
-
Today, myself & Morpeth Matt had a trundle past the Derwent Reservoir in County Durham, up to Chollerford via several diversions & road closures and then over to Rothbury (see pic) which was very busy with bikes. From Rothbury we had a run past Cragside, through Alnwick and then back down the coast managing to avoid any showers.
-
Today I finished fitting a set of LED fog/auxiliary lights to the tigger. The factory Triumph items it came with were a bit disappointing (and would have been even more so had I paid £360 for them...) and not very bright. So, I have added a set of E marked lights which I cannot for the life of me remember where I bought them from, it wasn't eBay that's all I know. However, I have wired them so that I can run them with the dipped beam rather than just sidelights as per the original. These are much brighter with a very wide spread of light and are the same 10w as the factory items. I've mounted them approximately 4" lower and 2" wider per side onto the upper engine bars. Very happy with the results, see below -
-
They look nice mate, shame you had to change them after paying out all that money for the Triumph ones :bang:
-
I was fortunate enough to get them thrown in as a sweetener by Triumph to shift them before the Euro 5 rules came in. As part of the deal I got the three box luggage, fog lights and engine bars all thrown in. When the government announced a 6 month extension to the Euro 5 reg's the deal was cancelled but my order was in. I saved a fortune and got out of my horrible V85tt at a decent price too.
-
Today I fitted a Delkevic 350mm carbon fibre oval to the tigger. This replaces the 320mm stainless steel tri oval I picked up second hand. It sounds good, with a deep grumble and looks a whole lot better than the stainless item too. Very happy. Tri oval can with no baffle available if anyone is interested ?
-
That looks really nice mate :thumb:
-
Cheers,, really happy with and it looks a lot better than the all stainless item. My mate reckons I've got more can's than Heinz...
-
lol lol
-
Today I set the clock. While messing around I realised I hadn't reset either trip for over 2,000 miles. Those 2,000 miles included a trip to Bourg-en-Bresse in France so a mixture of motorway, side roads and larking about in Northumberland and the Scottish borders. The average MPG over those miles was 53.1, that's very impressive from a heavy 1200, with a heavy rider with a penchant for heavy throttle use. Genuinely surprised by that. The other blank MPG figure in the picture is the instantaneous one which isn't a lot of use to be honest.
-
That is very good mpg 👍 and also as you say a heavy throttle hand lol
Well today I fired up both the KTM & The B-King as you can see from the screen the KTM is due for its second service
As it’s not been used at all since last November it has only done 1922 miles I will not be bothering to do anything about the service until I can ride again.
-
DUH Picture would help lol
-
That's a hard to miss yellow banner, I get a little orange spanner when it's service time.
-
Yes a little spanner would be much better but that’s KTM for you lol
When it had its first service (600 miles ) they said 9000 miles or a year which ever comes first lol
-
Yeah, the tigger is the same, 10,000 miles or a year whichever comes first. I'm averaging just over 4,000 miles a year at the moment and have done for a good few years. It's been a very long time since I did over 10,000 miles in a year. My best ever year on a bike was 25,000 miles but I was young & keen back then and on a Honda CB250RS no less ! Cracking little bike but sadly I have no pictures of it... It was the metallic black with the blue stripe up the tank version, happy days.
-
Today I fitted some gel graphics to the tiggers handguards. They took a bit of fitting as I had to get everything nice & warm (hairdryer) to make sure it followed the contours & bends. Then give it another blast of heat to fully activate the glue. Very happy with the results however.
-
Did you get the hair drier back where it belongs with no garage muck, and without being found out? And did you shake your head in bewilderment and ask how the hell they manage to get so much twist in the flex?
-
Both ! it is amazing how tight a bend women can get into a simple electrical flex...
-
Not actually done anything but Lilith's Christmas Present arrived this morning, all the way from Italy in 6 days and with no added import duty :)))
(https://i.ibb.co/616TNLx/IMG-20221108-WA0006.jpg) (https://ibb.co/1dHPbj5)
-
Ohhh nice you cannot Argue with that service :thumb:
-
Yes, GPR are usually on the ball. It's always a nice fit too :thumb:
-
Finally fitted trickle chargers on the 'Blade, VFR and Foxeye. It's only been 18 months since I installed power up the top of the garden
-
Steady away, you don't want to rush things. Nicely in time for winter however :thumb:
I was out around the Scottish borders yesterday and the bike got absolutely filthy. So today several buckets of soapy love were poured, sponged and hosed over the bike to bring it back to it's former glory. See before & after below -
-
Today I managed to score an absolute bargain and picked up a Corbin dual seat for the tigger. I spotted it on the Tiger1200 forum and it was only down the road in Stockton-upon-Tees, so a 50 mile trip in the car as it was
pissing down raining quite heavily. Incredibly, it came off a 2020 Alpine Edition so it had some white piping installed and the feller was only selling it as his recent knee operation had not gone well and any long distance touring was now out of the question. I was on the Corbin website and it would cost over £800 for a new one delivered to the door, so £250 for a nearly new, hardly used one was a no-brainer. Happy.
-
Yes indeed a real bargain looks really good on the bike :thumb:
-
Thank you very much sir :thumb:
Really happy with and it just feels 'right', if you know what I mean. I now need an excuse for a 500 mile day. In fact, do you ever need an excuse for a 500 mile day ? Well, apart from the Mrs...
-
That looks comfortable & a very good price! :thumb:
-
Cheers Mick, not the weather for it at the moment mind...
-
 definitely not. I only did two years/winters of commuting on the bike, both after I retired from BT (van at home) when I delivered car parts for Euro until the wife retired.
Both those years were enough & it was only a twenty minute ride across town!
It's nice now to be able to pick and choose those winter days when it's not too cold for these old bones......and that's with a heated jacket/grips etc. :thumb:
-
I was down a Knaresborough today delivering a lecture and passed a very cold looking feller on a 125cc Jizzmop (Chinese generic P.O.S.) and thought, nah. I get that some people can't afford a car and he did seem to have every item of clothing on he possessed, but looked nithered all the same. I had to turn the heater up in the car as he made me feel cold...
-
Today I renewed the insurance on the tigger, £243 which is about £50 less than last year. Nice mind.
-
That is a great price :thumb: very rare for it to cheaper so a right result
-
It's a bit long winded but the abbreviated version is I rang the insurance company (Bike Sure) and told them I had fitted a Corbin seat and Delkevic carbon fibre exhaust. The lady had to run the numbers and it came back £6.50 cheaper. So, modify your bike & save money lol
-
lol lol it does make you think 🤔 I didn’t tell them when I fitted my Arrow end can on the KTM or come to think of it I didn’t tell them about all the after market cans lol
-
I normally wouldn't if they are BSI or E marked as they would be classed as a 'direct replacement', I was more worried about the Corbin seat. Lets face it, if you put a Kwik Fit of Halfords exhaust on your car you wouldn't notify the insurance, even though it's technically a 'modification' as it's non-standard parts. Although I would have to as it's electric...
Have a great Christmas :thumb:
-
Hope you and yours have a Great Christmas to :thumb:
-
Today, I finished off wiring in my new fog/auxiliary lights on the tigger. The factory Triumph ones were at best poor and atrocious value for money (thankfully they were included when I bought the bike, had I paid £360 for them I would not have been happy). The original ones were also placed very close to the headlight & indicators, far from ideal. I've fitted the new fog lights lower and further apart for better visibility (both seeing and being seen). As the tigger is CanBus I had to take an alternative switched supply, so I've fitted a neat little switch on the handlebars. I can also now used dip beam instead of just the side light with the factory fit fog lights. Happy, but why didn't Triumph just do this from the start....
-
Not actually done anything to the bikes I currently own for a few weeks. I have however been looking at more bikes. Track bikes in particular :shy:
-
You do get a lot of track bike for your money compared to a street bike.
-
NorthumBryan looks great nice and neat good job :thumb:
MadisonMotorsportuk always good to look at bikes especially track bikes
-
Thank you :thumb:
-
Sunday & yesterday had a couple of short rides out for a coffee & a bite to eat. Couple of nice days weather wise (cold but dry). Had to change direction/venue on Sunday to avoid a heavy rain shower we were heading towards. Don't mind cold, don't mind wet (to a degree) but cold & wet .
Went to the National Memorial Arboretum Sunday. It's a wonderful place & although we didn't stay long you can spend a good day walking around looking at the memorials.
A few of photos from Sunday at the Arboretum & one from yesterday, the Old Smithy Café at Monyash.
Happy New Year to one & all.
-
Great pics and looked like a great run out. Too much ice about up here for any two wheeled shenanigans at the moment sadly...
-
Great pics nice run out :thumb:
-
Not so much the bike but more the bits to let you work on the bike. My birthday tool box arrived last week and I have finally got around to filling it up and getting a bit more organised. It's been a bit of a struggle but I have pretty much got there. Happy.
-
:thumb: nice.
-
Cheers Mick :thumb:
-
Very nice :thumb: make sure it’s all locked up secure :thumb:
-
Today, I treated the tiggers new (to me) Corbin seat to some waxy love. As the bulk of the seat is covered in leather and as I've been on the Corbin website looking at how to properly look after it, a good application of leather cleaner & feed was required. The Corbin stuff is prohibitively expensive to import, but I found some near identical stuff that most importantly didn't contain silicone and only had natural waxes. Following the instructions and giving it 10-15 mins to soak in the first application just disappeared ! The leather must have been bone dry, consequently another 3 applications were required before a bit of residue was left on the leather. It's now looking a lot 'blacker' than it was, has a nice satin sheen and feels lovely and soft. Very happy and I'll give it another treatment again next month. Maintenance is the key to preventing failures :thumb:
-
It does look good & if it's as comfortable as it looks you'll be covering many miles with lots of smiles. :thumb:
-
I hope so Mick, the standard one was not brilliant and then I had a gel pad fitted and it was a lot better, but still not perfect. I think I'll do a lot more miles this year if I'm comfy in the 'back door' department, as it were. I still remember the original seat on my Guzzi Stelvio with warm affection, quite simply the most comfortable bike seat I've ever had. Pure Italian luxury & it's what I judge every seat against.
-
Yes I have to agree it does look nice and comfortable and the leather feed you have applied really makes it stand out just hope it does not make it slippery ?
-
Oddly enough it hasn't made it any slippier, which was a concern. If anything, because the leather feels softer, it may actually be a bit grippier than it was before ? Of course the first time I grab a handful of brake and squash me plums against the tank I may well review that statement...
-
lol lol
-
Today I managed my first run out of the year with MorpethMatt. It was great to get back out and we had a little bimble up through Rothbury, on to Wooler and the over to Berwick and then back down the coast. We stopped off at Marshalls Restaurant which is just South of Berwick (off the A1167 next to the Go Outdoors warehouse) for a bite to eat which was spot on and we shall be back their again. We stopped off at Budle Bay for a picture and it's rude to go past Bamburgh Castle without a picture too. Great to be back out there and my Corbin seat is a thing of pure wonder, very happy.
-
Glad you both managed to get out it sounded like a great day especially as you had grub to 😃 glad the Corbin seat is a comfy as it looks 👍
-
Cheers, it was a bit nippy but OK. I have to confess my seat is a little bit on the slippery side, possibly too much leather feed...
-
Today I've given the tigger a bit of soapy love, it didn't look that dirty after yesterdays 115 mile run out, but once I made a clean spot that was it. Drip drying in the garage now ready for next time.
-
lol lol I did think the leather feed might make it slippery :bang:
Always good to give them some soapy love especially after a ride out this time of year 😠
Hope it’s not to long before you get out again.
-
I had a very interesting and remarkably eventful run out on the tigger. The day started with a rendezvous with Morpethmatt at Fairmoor garage which is just off the A1 North of Morpeth. It started to go 'udders skywards' when Matt's GS got away from him and he tested the integrity & quality of the SW Motech engine bars, this is before even leaving the garage. SW Motech have done a great job in designing the bars as no other part of the GS hit the ground and they only suffered a bit of chipped paint, very impressive. So, after picking the GS up (surprisingly easy I have to say) we headed off West for a run to Kielder Reservoir. Only 20 mins into the run and we found a stricken chap on an 850GS who had ended up in a ditch and the bike was stuck fast. He's got a wheel onto the grass, lost control and slid into a 2' deep gully which did not want to give up the GS without a fight. Much struggling, grunting and straining between the three of us saw the GS freed from it's boggy captor. The bike was covered in mud & grass and we left him to pick it clean after a thankful handshake.
We had a nice run to Kielder through Bellingham but discovered to our dismay that none of the cafe's had opened yet. Bugger, we headed up to Kielder Castle (cafe closed) and then it was off to Jedburgh via some tiny little back roads and a very welcome pot of tea & bacon sammich at the Abbey Bridge Coffee House. From there we hit the little roads and headed to Wooler via Kirk Yetholm and stopped for another cuppa and a scone (we're not animals after all...).
It was in Wooler I noticed Matt's bike was quite clean while mine was absolutely minging. Hmmm, perhaps those 'Mudsling' plastic's you get for GS' really do work ? Anyhow, we had a nice run home through Longframlington & Longhorsley before heading in our own directions at Morpeth. I had a new pair of Merlin Adventure boots on and after one or two missed gear changes at the start of the day they started to break in really well and I can tell they will be like slippers in a few months time. Will they be waterproof ? Probably not but I can live with that. A furious amount of soapy love saw the tigger restored to it's former glory. Great day out :thumb:
-
Today, like the rest of the week, absolutely nothing. They must be feeling neglected :wtf:
I'm decorating today. Just done a second sizing coat on the newly plastered bedroom walls/ceiling and I'll start papering shortly.
-
Deep joy, mind you the roads are filthy so you are not missing anything...
-
Sounded like an excellent day out.
Weekends nowadays, for us, are standing on a touchline watching the grandkids play football.
Not as much fun as riding the bike but better than decorating! :thumb:
-
Yes I agree sounded like a great day out and very eventful !!!!
Hopefully the chap who ended up in the ditch was ok?
Glad your mate Matt was ok after dropping his bike.
Good luck with the decorating 👍
-
The feller in the ditch was fine, pride massively dented and caked in mud but he's OK and the bike was unmarked under the mud & grass. Matt took the tumble well and nearly had the GS upright by the time I got to it, I managed to put just enough effort in to claim an assist !
-
I've booked my Tigger in for an annual service at Triumph Newcastle. It's out of warranty now, but it does help resale value and I know there are a lot of updates to the ECU according to the Tiger1200 forum (should run even better with the latest 'map'). I have to book this well in advance to make sure I get the coveted Saturday morning slot which everyone wants. It's 6 weeks away but it suits me fine. Now, I just need to pick a demonstrator to take out while the tigger's getting fresh oil & filter and a look over...
Hmmm. Rocket 3 gt ?
-
Sounds like a great plan and you definitely done well getting a Saturday morning slot :thumb:
Not sure if you have ridden a Rocket 3 before ? My mates brother has had 2 and loves them (be it older models )
Look forward to your views ?
-
I had a Rocket 3 Touring for a while. I loved the bike, but it was no good as an 'only bike'. i still chuckle thinking about how barking it was lol
Picture of said beast -
-
Very nice :thumb:
This is his current one, over the years he has had gold wings, FJR 1300 & he was a police motorcyclist so rode their BMW RT 1200.
-
Very tidy and the black & cream colour scheme is very classy :thumb:
-
I managed to get out for a rather chilly hour today and just beat the rain. I had a little bimble down the coast to Whitley Bay & Tynemouth (both places packed out) and then down to the fish quay at North Shields. If you look in the first picture you can see the little South/North Shields ferry and in the background the big Ijmuiden ferry. Looking the other way is the Tyne exit with the South Shields harbour marker.
-
Very nice 😃 Glad you managed to get out :thumb:
-
About all I've done is fit a new H7 adapter on the GSXR to replace the H4 that the previous owner had wedged in. Oh and fitted new screen rubber nut things.
-
MadisonMotorsportUK it is always good to do some Sunday bits & bobs on our bikes to get them how we want them :thumb:
-
Well nothing at all today, the garden has been over 6" deep in snow. I'm off work again. Boss in his wisdom decided to put me on an install for Thames Water yesterday and my wrist/hand is buggered again. Managed to get some emulsion up today in the bedroom, not happy with the colour though so off to Wickes in the morning.
-
Yes, the white stuff has biking off the cards this weekend...
-
I had a belting run out around the borders today with Morpethmatt. We hit some really obscure single track roads as well as some better known but pleasantly empty roads too, could just have been Mothers Day ? Just over 160 miles and averaging 54 mpg too, not bad for a big heavy old girl. My service indicator lit up today - service due in 21 days. It's booked in at Newcastle on the 22nd so that's near enough. It needs a new battery for the keyless fob as it showed 'fob out of range' a few times today. It took a good hour to wash when I got home mind...
Pics of Ford Castle & Pottergate Tower, Alnwick.
-
Sounded like a great run out 😀
Sometimes the key fob battery’s last a long while & the replacement seem to only last a short while lol
Hope all goes well with the service lol
-
Sorry that was meant to be a :thumb: For the service zzzzz
-
Happens...
-
Booked the VFR in for MOT and service next Friday. It'll be the only time CMC get to service it at £250 a time! Only getting it done because I want a couple of bits sorted under warranty.
-
Good stuff, get the warranty work sorted. I've decided to keep getting my Tiger serviced by Triumph Newcastle (it's now out of warranty) because there are a surprising amount of software updates flying around.
-
Today I've run the GSXR and VFR up.
Foxeye doesn't want to start. Spinning nicely but appears now to have either no spark or blocked carbs, doesn't sound like she's trying to fire. I was intending to swap her forks and get her MOT'd next weekend. I may just bite the bullet and stick her on eBay as she is.
-
Bugger.
-
We had a belting run out today covering some 215 miles on all types of roads, mostly small and single lane, some with grass down the middle. Anyhow, the main highlights were Alston, Sedbergh, Kirkby Lonsdale & Hexham. Feeling on top of the world on a 'bike buzz' at the moment :thumb:
-
Well done for getting out for a ride and it looked nice & sunny sounded like a great ride out :thumb:
-
Today the Tigger got it's annual service at Triumph Newcastle. Just over 9,000 miles and it needed a set of rear brake pads, not really surprising as I do use the rear a lot. £308 all in, which is fine by me and keeps the service schedule up to date. I could have done without getting drenched on the way home however...
-
That doesn’t sound a bad price at all and as you say it keeps the service schedule up to date 👍
Not sure what I am going to do with my KTM regarding servicing as the bike has only done 1922 miles after the first service (600 miles ) Laguna Ashford said next service 9000 miles or one year whatever comes first, we as you well know I haven’t be able to ride at all last year, and in fact the last time the KTM was ridden was when I put it to bed for the winter November 2021 😱
And I have heard nothing from Laguna Ashford at all ( not impressed )
I enquired about a Honda Africa twin back in 2017 from Lings in Suffolk and I get emails almost daily lol
-
They are funny old things dealers, some pester, some just can't be bothered. The 'holy grail' is the one that fits in between. I've not found one of those yet...
-
lol lol
-
Today I was out the blocks early and gave the bike a bit of soapy love. I surprised at just how dirty it got riding from Newcastle to home in the rain yesterday, only some 15 miles. Back to sparkling again and I'll pop my Corbin seat back on when this one fully dries out.
-
Looking good :thumb:
-
Cheers :thumb:
It's unfortunately one of those bikes that just gets very dirty, very easily. The mixture of satin finishes & grey's & blacks show every spot of muck & dust. Ho hum...
-
God's teeth, not you with the 'ho hum' business now! There's more than enough of that over on the vstrom forum!! lol
-
lol :thumb:
-
Nothing unfortunately, apart from a couple of days a few years back, I been off bikes since 2016. Back soon though, maybe.
-
There's a vast array of bikes out there at the moment to suit every style, size & pocket. Yer spoilt for choice :thumb:
-
Oh I'm broke as a student, still got my collection of bikes though, just very little motivation or ability to do the work needed for MOT.
-
You never know, may pick up that little spark of inspiration on here vrrr
-
I'm currently signed off work with a busted shoulder and have my Robin to get roadworthy first. Starting uni in September so unless I manage to get it done this summer, that'll be another 6-7 years before I can put in the time and effort for what will pretty much be a toy now.
-
Pics of that collection please :old:
-
Currently covered in moss and leaves, you know of most of them though.
XJ750 Seca (likely completely bagelled), silly modified GS500F, MZ 125 and F650GS. Got a Speedfight 50 LC in the pile too but that's missing a lot of bits (stolen-recovered with 500 miles on it). I had an SR125 but swapped it for a clutch cable xD
I did have a few pics of them from last year but they kinda gone along with my smashed phone.
I've had a Robin for just over 5 years now, which I will be getting some cleaning up ready for MOT soon.
-
Oooh, an XJ750 Seca, my mate 'nutty Norman' had a red one and it was a cracking bike. Massively underrated and way ahead of it's time.
-
Mine's a Canadian import with the touring kit, got stripped down to the absolute minimum and was a ratbike for years. I think the engine is full of water and the swingarm rotting through though :(
-
That Seca just keeps on going despite your best attempts lol
-
I think 2009 was the last time it moved, I did start an EFI conversion but life happened and it went back into storage. Suspect there's going to be rusty valves in it by now, been half tempted to get all the bits together and give it away to someone who can restore it, but I also want to ride it again if my arthritic joints let me.
-
I took the Tenere 700 out for a couple of hundred miles around Wales today, I think we have bonded vrrr
-
That’s nice to hear Andy looks a nice bike with great upgrades :thumb: And well done on the weight loss :thumb:
I have put weight back on with being laid up for a year :broken:
-
Ordered some feeler guages as the top end sounds a little tippy tappy...
Only to find the clearance is perefectly fine lol
Stop being tappy then plz k thx :thumb: :)))
-
I was always told that a tappy tappet was a happy happy tappet. Might not apply these days..
-
Top off with 90w gear oil, be reets.
-
That’s nice to hear Andy looks a nice bike with great upgrades :thumb: And well done on the weight loss :thumb:
I have put weight back on with being laid up for a year :broken:
Motorbike bondage? zzzzzz
-
Today I fitted a side stand 'big foot' to the tigger. It's a big old hector and prone to sink into anything other than a firm surface with little warning. It was only £15 to the door off eBay and is surprisingly good quality for the price. Perfect fit with acres of clearance too, very happy.
-
Bargain. Looks good 👍
-
After having the KTM on the optimiser for a year now 😱 I put a proper battery charger on it yesterday, so today I started it up and left it running for about 15 minutes to get up to temperature, I am really hoping to try to get on it soon 🤞🤞
I also tried to start the B-King which has also been on a optimiser for the same amount of time but the battery was dead flat, so I have put the charger on it and will try to start that tomorrow.
-
Good luck with the charging, with a bit of luck both will be fine :thumb:
-
Well as I said I put the B-King on the proper charge and left it over night and It started straight away 😀 as with the KTM I left it running for a while to get up to temperature.
-
:thumb:
-
Not so much the bike as such, more the place it lives. I've finally got around to installing a Yale alarm system to the garage. It's been on the to-do list for sometime but with yet another holiday coming up (Alsace, wine week) I thought 'get yer finger oot lad'. Sorted and working perfectly, at least it's a bit of a deterrent and my neighbours garages look much more of an attractive proposition now compared to mine...
Front & rear pic's.
-
Looking good 😊 yes great idea you can never be to security conscious 👍
We done the same 3 years ago we had the garage added on to the house alarm and cameras 👍
-
I have noticed a number of new faces in the area lately, none of which look particularly trustworthy. Apparently, the local council has done a deal with one of the London Boroughs and is shipping people into empty council houses in the Wansbeck area. It explains some of the rather unusual (for Northumberland) accents I've heard in shops etc. You can spot them a mile away too, wearing thick coats, hats & gloves when all the locals are in T shirts...
-
lol Yes definitely a good move on your part then 👍
-
Today I had an absolute belter of a run out covering some 255 miles and averaging 60 mpg! The big tigger did me proud and provided sublime comfort on some very bumpy, uneven & gravelly roads. In a nutshell we rode up through Kielder, stopped for a bacon butty in Newcastleton (and bumped into an old work colleague on his very smart Triumph 765 Speed Triple), headed towards Hawick but turned off for the single track road that heads past Hermitage Castle (pic 1) and then we headed up to St Mary's Loch (pics 2& 3). After a cuppa & a scone we headed over the top past the Megget & Talla Reservoirs (pic 4), on to Peebles and then back home through Jedburgh & Otterburn. Still buzzing, this is what biking is all about.
-
Fantastic mate great run out love the pictures, I used to love a run out like that.
-
I changed my speedo over for one that reads in MPH vs KPH as to not end up speeding but heres a question...
The odometer still seems to be reading in KPH. It says I did 280 "Miles" on 1 tank. I wish! But convert that from 280Km to miles and we get 173 Mile and that seems more like it. So either some thing or borked or something is borked
-
Is it a new speedo or just an overlay ?
-
new speedo. Im starting to think its a KPH model with a new overlay my self lol
-
I got out on the bike with Matt and we had a very pleasant trundle into County Durham in the glorious sunshine. We went over the moors to Middleton-in-Teesdale, stopping off for a cuppa and a snack before heading down to Barnard Castle for a quick eye test. From there we headed over to Cumbria and cut through the little single track back roads before heading up to Hartside. We were less than impressed to discover the road up had been freshly gravelled so it was hard work in places avoiding the mounds of loose gravel. From there we headed down to Alston, turning off for Slaggyford and stopped off at The Nook farm shop & cafe for more tea. After a refreshing brew we headed North and up on to the Military Road which runs alongside Hadrians Wall, following it to Chollerford and the Riverside Cafe where further tea (and cake) was consumed. From there we headed East cutting through Colwell, Middleton, Hartburn & Morpeth before heading home. A great run out and 185 miles in total. Pic 1 is outside Bowes Museum, Barney Castle, Pic 2 is yer man at the Riverside Cafe full of tea & cake :)))
-
Great run around sounded brilliant lots of tea & cake 👍
As I said on the V-Strom forum that 2nd picture could be me lol

Yesterday I finally go around to fitting the new batteries on the GSXR and VFR. Two "Danish Pastry" moments.
My VFR for some strange reason doesn't have the normal battery that every other VFR VTEC appears to have so the Motobatt I bought doesn't fit, it's too tall. Oh no, mine has a stupidly expensive one that seems to be a Yuasa only model. Over £100 for SLA? Don't think so! Searching around and filtering by the size of the old one, I found a Fulbat gel battery with even better Ah and CCA than the Yuasa one, which arrived this afternoon (I love my Tayna trade account, less than 24 hours from order to delivery). It was a little low on voltage so I popped it onto the Noco earlier. I'll fit it tomorrow. I'll find a use for the Motobatt in some project or other.
Fitted the GSXR's Motobatt no problem, started first press and running sweet. Went to put he all back together and the two fairing screws that hold the seat down have decided to take a holiday :wnk:
-
Bugger, why is it fasteners go walkabout with little warning ?
-
Run the KTM and the B-King up this morning and bought them both up to temperature 👍
-
Good idea, i must give the tigger a prod to make sure it starts. Great dash on yer KTM :thumb:
-
Thank you 👍 the tigger should start ok as it has not been long since you were out on it has it ? From memory it’s not long now to when you can drive and ride again is it ?
-
No, Sunday at 1pm will be 4 weeks (to the second) when I finished having my stent procedure. Not that I'm desperate to get back on the bike or anything...
-
lol lol 👍
-
So, what happened when you pressed the rear low? lol
-
No idea lol I didn’t do anything other than just cover it back up lol
-
I finally managed to get out on the bike after 8 weeks! I had my enforced 4 week 'suspension' from driving due to my recent heart attack and then it's been sopping wet ever since. It felt great to be out again, even if I only just popped up to Rothbury. Happy and back out again today :thumb:
-
That is brilliant mate 👍👍
-
I had a cracking run out today with my mate Matt, the weather forecast wasn't brilliant but we kept near the coast and missed all the showers. We had a trundle up to Berwick-upon-Tweed via Wooler and then had run over to the 'Union bridge' which has recently been refurbished. It's very impressive to think they could build that back in 1820! We had a great run back down the coast, stopping off at Budle Bay for a look at the wildlife and then it was back through Bamburgh, Seahouses and Beadnell - all of which were rammed out with tourists. A modest 150 miles and a big grin on my face - very happy.
-
Today I've moved them around so the VFR is easier to get out. The GSXR has an electrical gremlin somewhere so it's not going out at the moment.
-
Bugger, is it enough to stop it starting or are you having a disco ?
-
It works but it managed to discharge a brand new MotoBatt is 10 days despite being switched off. It's shorting somewhere. I need to pull all the plastics off and have a good look.
-
Yes, that sounds like a weekend with the multimeter. Good luck :thumb:
-
Parasitic draw somewhere? Apologies if I'm telling you what you already know but, connect a multi meter (on the amps scale) in series with the + & then pull the fuses one at a time until the current stops running. You will then have the circuit responsible & that will cut your searching down a little.
-
:goodpost:
-
I had a belting ride out by myself today and racked up 320 miles! In a nutshell it was West along Hadrians Wall, North to Moffat, across to St Mary's Loch, Over to Hawick and then South to the Carter Bar. From there I headed over to Rothbury and then home via some very small, single track roads. Cracking day out, the first two pic's are St Mary's Loch, the third is the Carter Bar and the fouth is Rothbury.
-
Looked a great run out NothumBryan 👍
-
Today I fitted a tank protector, then went out for a hour or two the temperature hit 29 🥵
Doing some more running in miles around some Essex villages, stopping to take this picture at the Mountnessing windmill which was built in 1807 and was restored to working order in 1983.
Later I stopped at a shop to get a bottle of water, ( there were 2 big steps outside and as I am still not good on my feet I decided not to tackle the steps )
Instead I asked a group of youths who were standing outside if one of them would go in and get me a bottle of water, and I was told that the shop had run out of water, but one of them said I will go in and ask if they have any out the back, he came back and said no they haven’t, so I thanked them for trying and turned towards my bike I then heard Excuse me and one of the lads was holding a bottle of water in his hand saying I have only taken a sip but you are welcome to it, I said yes please holding out some money but he said I don’t want anything for it, what a lovely thing to do my faith in the youth at that point helping out a thirsty, hot & sweaty :old
-
Nice pic's, the tank protector looks good and that's where the heat was! I had about 10 mins of heat as most of the day was foggy and even some very light rain at one point. I didn't mind as it was about 20c all day until I left Rothbury and it jumped up to 27c. Flip front open, little back roads, bliss :thumb:
-
Thank you 👍
It has been so bloody Hot 🥵 down here mate, I have been riding with my leather jacket half undone and my visor open.
Loving this bike mate I have already ordered an after market can for it 🤣 & I have asked for a price from Harley for bar risers & a radiator guard.
The pic of the bar risers is from the S model demo I test rode, I just hope the cables are long enough to fit straight on ?
-
Most manufactureres leave a little bit of wiggle room on the hose & cable lengths to allow for a bit of personalisation, I'm sure you'll be fine. Obviously, it's not a proper Harley without a cheeky exhaust on. It'll sound good at 11,000 rpm !!! :thumb:
If I remember correctly 'Bike' magazine had the 975 on test and there was a 'comfort bar' option which gave another 5" of height, didn't mention if you needeed cables & hoses mind. Just a thought.
-
Hi NorthumBryan
Today I got the email from the Harley Dealership regarding the Bar risers 😱
It was a good job I was siting down (lunch time at work ) when the email came through 🤣
-
Ouch ! That's a hefty bill....
-
Yes that is what I thought 🤣 I have Emailed her back saying I wasn’t expecting it to be that much, and I would do the job myself anyway so I can save the £240 quid. I didn’t realise the bar riser bits were all separate? I thought they all come as a complete ?
So it’s eBay I think 🤣🤣
-
Hi NorthumBryan
I have found these on eBay I would Appreciate if you could take a look and see what you think ?
-
They look OK, decent enough machining and like all handlebar raisers I wouldn't trust the bolts. Pick up some nice quality stanless steel ones and save a fortune :thumb:
-
I've had another look and the bolts seem OK to be honest, good luck :thumb:
-
Thank you I will order them 👍
-
My Aftermarket exhaust arrived yesterday.
So after work today I fitted it, the stock exhaust took a lot of sweat & swearing to remove from the 2 into 1 branch (you can see from the picture how long the pipe is to see how much I had to pull off 🥵 also you can see the cat which I left in situ)
I went for a little run (25 miles ) to try it out, the sound from the new S&S exhaust is a little bit deeper than the stock, and it has a removable baffle which I will remove and try.
But as I am still running the bike in I will wait to do this.
The bike felt a lot more responsive with this new exhaust on which I was pleased about.
But I did notice when I first started the bike up from round where the baffle attaches I could feel a little draft of exhaust gases & also a tiny bit from where the 02 sensor screws in to.
I will keep an eye 👁️ on it, anyway pictures I hope 🤞
-
Looks good, I suspect the baffle's days are limited... It's almost like HD wants you to drill the cat' out - it's so accessable !
-
Thank you 👍
Yes I think you are right there I will be taking the baffle out 🤣
I have also ordered the bar risers & the Radiator Guard👍
-
Nice, a bit of 'personalisation' never goes wrong :thumb:
-
I was so tempted to fire it up with just the 2 into 1 branch ( I which I had now ) 🤣🤣
-
A few years ago I 'liberated' the cat from 2 into 1 the pipework of my Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally - what a bark it had ! It made an already quite sprightly bike sound and go much better and added 2/3 mpg into the bargain. It also got rid of a LOT of heat right beside the right hand side footpeg which you could really feel in traffic on a hot day.
-
Ah that is interesting to hear, as the Harley is exactly the same it is so hot next to my right boot 👍
-
My Aprilia was out of warranty so I wouldn't have been tempted otherwise...
-
lol lol I hear you 👍
-
The bar risers arrived yesterday.
So fitted them this morning nice simple job, and all the cables were long enough so that’s a result 👍
-
Very smart, looks a really neat & tidy solution :thumb:
Have they made much difference ? I find it's quite remarkable how much you can tweak a bike to suit you by making a few simple modifications.
-
Yes they have made a huge difference must more comfortable 👍
Please see my next post.
-
Ohh 😮
Well I have just been out in the Garage to redo them I even had my big boy socket set out 🤣
I Tightened as much as I could using my big pry bar, but the stainless bolts the Chinese supplied with the bar risers are not up to much in fact one started to round off :dl_smiley_banghead:
I will have to find some top quality ones to replace them :icon_batterup:
-
Bugger, I've been caught out by 'cheese' bolts in the past. Some nice stainless ones wll do the trick :thumb:
-
Yes I remember you saying get some nice Stainless bolts when I was first looking 🤣
I will take a look on eBay 👍
-
Good luck, I use Kays fastners on eBay quite a bit as they seem to be decent quality and quick delivery.
-
Thank you I will take a look 👀 👍
-
Today I took the Tigger for it's forst ever MOT, which it passed with flying colours !
-
That great news mate always good to get the bike pass it’s first MOT 👍
-
Certainly a milestone, the Tigger is also rapidly heading towards being my longest owned bike. Currently, 3 1/4 years is the 'record' held by my former Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200, which I would probably still have if it didn't eat a set of discs every year. And I mean, three discs every year! It got tiresome the moment it was out of warranty. Next up was an XJR1200 Yam' at 3 years ownership (no discs eaten) and after that it is one or two years maximum. Ho hum.
-
🤣🤣 I tend to keep mine forever (apart from the KTM but you know why I had to change that ☹️)
I have had my v-Strom since new 57 Reg, my B-King since new 11 Reg and a couple of XJ 1300 Yamahas for 3 years each 🤣🤣
-
I fitted another ground anchor today.
As I was using the Oxford RotorForce I fitted years ago with the chain trailing across the floor (and that was a trip hazard and I couldn’t afford to fall again )
Also I would like your opinions on when to get my bike its first service ?
The first service is 1000 miles, I have currently done 900 miles.
Just wondered whether to get the service done before I park it up for the winter or leave it until March/April then get it done ?
I would Appreciate your thoughts/opinions
-
That's a couple of chunky locks mind :thumb: I like the simplicity of the box section, easy to install, but it will be satan's own to remove, clever.
Servicing, hmmm. I brought my bike MOT forward 'just in case' the weather hangs on and it's not just sitting there, unable to be used. Also, I'm known to do a few miles on crisp, winters days when the salt is on the roads but it's dry and powdery (followed by a phorensic level of washing frenzy when I get home) rather than wet. We get a surprising amount of those in Northumberland so I do get out a bit in the winter. My mate has a fancy phone app which tracks mileage, speed, altitude etc and he reckons March was the biggest month for bike use this year? So, if it were myself, I'd get it seviced sooner rather than later - just in case.
-
Moved them all out of the way to finish putting up their temporary home. Think I need to remove the 3EN2's front calipers as well, she's a little tough to push for a 400. Putting some more air in the tyres would probably help too
Anyway, apart from a coat of fence paint for protection and fill in a couple of small gaps in the polycarb roof, it's pretty much done. Now at least I can get Lilith out before the fork seals go again through lack of use lol
-
Temporary home ? Are you planning a garage overhaul ?
-
New workshop is planned. It will be about 22' x 18' at the end of the garden. I have gated access to the rear and I'm up at the top of the "cul-de-sac" of the rear access. The deeds show the property boundary down the middle of this private road and my back fence is currently about 15' in from that. As long as I leave enough space to get a vehicle through (not that anyone apart from me uses the rear access anyway) I can come out to 4' from the boundary line which gives me another 10' of usable ground. I have to abide by building regs but don't require any form of planning permission as it's about 80' from the house.
The old "garage" was basically a 16' x 10' shed and past it's best. The problem I have is that I have to do the concrete pad in several parts and keep moving the temporary accommodation. A neighbour has said I can put a couple of bikes in his garage out of the way as he doesn't use it any more so that will make life a little easier.
-
Sounds a cracking project - good luck with it :thumb:
I had to rebuild the front of my garage as it was falling down (no foundations, loooong story...) about two year ago. It was an upheaval but worth it.
-
I put a 'Big Dug' floor down which was worth every penny as it's always nice and warm and fairly comfortable if you have to kneel on it. It's also strong enough to jack up a car on too, well worth it.
-
I can see one major problem with your garage.
Only one bike in all that space
-
Indeed, I've got to leave space to charge a leccy car up, but i could slot another one (or two) in. 7/10 must try harder...
-
I had a very nice trundle out today with my mate Matt & his GS1200. We set off through Hexam, Slaley & Blanchland heading over the Durham moors which provided some stunning views, if a little bit blustery. We then followed the Wear Valley to Alston, heading towards Slaggyford and a stop at The Nook farmshop & cafe (pic 1). This place is very biker friendly and when we left there were over 30 bikes parked up! From there we headed along to Brampton and then back towards home via Hadrians Wall, past the 'Sycamore Stump' before stopping at the Riverside Cafe at Chollerford for a slice of their home made ham & egg pie (pic 2). After the refil it was home via Belsay & Morpeth. It was a cracking run out, especially for the middle of October and another 150 mile day. Happy, but the bike is minging...
-
Sounded like a Great run out mate 👍 the Ham & egg pie looked really tasty 😋
Hope tomorrow’s Test ride goes well 🤔 A bloke my mate works with has also booked a test ride on one.
I Take it this is the same bike you are test riding ?
-
Yes (or one of the variants), they couldn't tell me exactly which model or spec they would have available? I just want to see if it's comfortable, light and the gearbox works! Simple enough, but the GS1250 I last test rode was badly let down in one of those categories...
-
Today, the bike got a start & warm up and a new top box. The factory 42L (Triumph branded) Givi top box was a little bit on the compact side for my needs so I've ugraded to the 58L version. The old one is sat on top of the new one for scale. I quickly tried the panniers on and both lids open with no clearance issues. Happy.
-
Wow mate that is a great size top box and you will get plenty of sandwiches and flasks of coffee in there for your trips :thumb:
-
After a bit of faff with a Givi Trekker 58L top box which I had to return (I eventually got a full refund as the lock was fitted incorrectly, it would only release the keys when open but not when locked) I thought, throw caution to the wind and lets save a few quid and go Chinese. So, I took a punt on a 65L 'generic' aluminium top box for a very reasonable £145 to the door. I fitted it today to the original Tiger 1200 rack (a fair bit of drilling required) and it's looking good. I slapped on a few decals I had lying around, which some folks may recognise. Is it as good as a Givi ? Err, no - but it's not far off, 7 out of 10 I'd say. The standard locks are appaling quality and will be replaced (£19 for two), the lid hinge pins are open to being tapped out (I have a cunning solution to this) but everything else looks good. The waterproof rand is nice & squishy, forming a very tight seal so should be watertight. The mounting plate is good (the 'universal' fitting kit went in the bin mind...) and has bolted up well. It's much better finished internally than a Givi box and at 65L volume is cavernous, easily enough room for two full face lids, gloves etc. It even has two handy pouches built into the padded lid and an elesticated strap to help keep things in place. I also quickly checked and both panniers can open without issue, but it is close. It may look a bit odd on a smaller bike due to its generous proportions, but on a bike the size of the Tigger it looks like it was made for the job - happy.
-
That is a great looking top box, plenty of room in there 👍
-
A few before and after. Still working on some things.
Mud guard will have to wait till I am back in work
-
It's coming along :thumb:
-
Yes I agree it is coming on 👍
in that last picture the forks still look a little bent to me ? Or is it just me 🤣
-
the last pic is actually a before, the middle is during and the first is after..
Its all backerds lol
-
I have been doing a few hours extra at work, due to the pallet network that we use going bust. So we have found another network to do our odd pallets ( full loads go direct ) any how the jobs were all picked and the shunts were all done. So my boss said you have been staying late quite a bit ( they do not pay overtime) so why don’t you go early the sun is out and go out on your bike.
Well I didn’t need telling twice 🤣.
So I had went out for a couple of hours around some lovely B roads and A few A roads, stopping off at The museum of power in Langford near Maldon in Essex for a picture or 2. Riding though some of the villages the kids were getting off of the school buses and they were gesturing with there hands to rev the Engine 🤣🤣 which I duly did as the Harley sounds great on the overrun 🤣
In the pictures you will see a Heron which I thought it was one of the plastic ones until it flew off ( second picture it has gone )
-
Great pictures and a great boss you have there too :thumb:
-
Thank you. Yes he is very fair and I always think it’s like swings and roundabouts. So that’s why I don’t mind helping out like that. We have a small but good team that get the work done 👍
Hope you have had a great Holiday and was well fed and watered 🤣
-
I have certainly piled a few pounds back on, there's some seriously large portion sizes on offer in Menorca! Not to mention the wine too... Diet starts tomorrow, back in the gym on Tuesday night, which will be difficult.
-
🤣🤣 that’s what holidays are all about 🤣 good on you 👍
I don’t think I am your typical Harley Davidson owner/rider as my bike is filthy 🤣🤣
-
Sent Ruby (Foxeye) off to start a new chapter of her life down in Tiverton, in the back of a bright red Vivaro, with her new owner. She will be getting a full nut & bolt restore.
125 Repsol is being collected tomorrow by a bloke from Leeds who deals only with 125s.
That's made space for Elvira, the FJR1300A I picked up a couple of weeks ago.
As of tomorrow, I'll be down to only 5 bikes lol
-
lol lol
-
The heartache...
I've tried the 'multibike' thing and just end up neglecting all of them bar the one I ride all the time. My mate's down to 15 at the moment (mostly Kawasaki triples) and his 'go to' bike is an old FZ750 Yamaha, the rest barely get moved apart from the odd kick into life and a trip around the block.
-
As you know I have had 4 bikes for years now (5 if you count the speedway bike ) and non bikers say but you can only ride 1 at a time which in fairness is true 🤣
So if I sale the other 3 I have and just have the Harley then maybe in time I would by a 2nd cruiser type bike ??
-
I have to say I miss my former Rocket 3 Touring on sunny days and could make room for one. I have noticed the prices have firmed up a bit on them in the last year or so. Gratuitous picture of my former bike -
(you can't really see, but I'd converted it to a single pipe with a piece of car flexi pipe in lieu of the collector box hidden neatly under the original cover and a Harley Davidson Electraglide 'performance' silencer. It was a bit loud but added a LOT of HP by getting rid of both catholic converters & the highly restrictive collector box. A remap showed 138bhp at the rear wheel and the ability to wheelie in third and spin the rear wheel in the wet in top gear!)
-
I should have added I removed the incredibly restrictive airbox and fitted a Ramair filter kit. That alone is worth around 15hp!
-
That was a great looking bike 👍 and it must have sounded great 😊
For a few years myself and my wife used to join in on the Stevenage bike clubs Easter egg run (delivering Easter eggs to various shelters from domestic violence and children’s hospice ). one of the riders had a Rocket 3 with straight through exhausts even though there were probably 50 bikes you could hear his bike 🤣🤣. Even though it was only Easter all he’d wear was a leather waste coat 👊
-
We have a few of the waistcoat wearing types around our way, usually on very noisy bikes!
-
🤣🤣 he was always just a waistcoat nothing underneath, we were not warm with our bike jackets on🤣 his pillion was his Daughter and she loved riding with her dad.
-
Takes all sorts vrrr
-
Really great ride after work today. Went to Bury St Edmunds and visited Krazy Horse lots of lovely bikes took some photos.
-
More photos

Even more
-
Really loving this little Harley 👍 135 miles this afternoon/evening.
-
I'm pleased you're getting on with the HD, it's just great to be out biking! Great pics and I have to confess I have a soft spot for the Indian Tracker. I sat on one at the bike show a couple of years ago and it just felt right. Desperately impractical mind, but they look great.
-
Thank you 👍 I went to work on it today and went for a ride after work again only 50 odd miles but great to get out, I know it’s rush hour and all that but mostly stick to the back roads 😁
Took a few pictures 1st one is at Terling Ford and the rest are Rayne railway station they have made the old ticket office in to a cafe. And you can still see where the tracks were this is now a cycle/walk way called the Flitch way.
The Indians do look rather nice I haven’t sat on one though 🤣
-
Forgot one
-
Great pic :thumb:
-
So if I sale the other 3 I have and just have the Harley then maybe in time I would by a 2nd cruiser type bike ??
See? Having three other bikes is saving you from the downward spiral into Milwaukee dildo ownership lol
-
Harsh lol
