Title: Foxy lady
Post by: NorthumBryan on April 02, 2022, 11:20:39 AM
I'm sitting in the back room talking rubbish on the phone to my mate when this cheeky little lady brazenly strolls across the garden in broad daylight. Definitely a vixen and she nearly came right up to the patio doors. Poor quality I know but it was through double glazing and I was trying not to be seen. She looked in great condition and it didn't look like she'd had too hard a winter.

Love that and yes she does look in good condition someone has been feeding her,
A chap I used to work with dad a few years ago spotted one in his garden and he started putting food out for it, and in the end it became quite tame and use to come in and sit in the kitchen with him, and it also came back with its cubs the year after.

Nice, I'm reluctant to put food out as we had a rodent of the genus rattus rattus visiting the bird feeders. I put some rat poison down (hidden under rocks & bricks so no birds could get at it) and it seems to have taken the bait, as it were. One of the buggers got into the loft last year and promptly died causing a hell of a stink and then loads of flies. Not pleasant, still not found it's remains yet but it's under the loft insulation somewhere I can't readily get to.

We also have a few bird feeders down the garden which also get visited by Rattus
, but what can you do either stop feeding the birds or put up with the Rats !!!!

I got my wife to put one of the bird tables out by the front lounge window so I can see them while I am sitting in my chair with my leg up, mostly visited by song birds so hopefully not Rats out the front 🤞

Don’t like the sound of a rat in the loft though (dead or not )

Great idea putting the feed where you can see it easily  :thumb: I love to sit and watch the birds come and go but often don't have the time sadly. I did notice yesterday that we've got a pair of Greenfinches back in the garden after about a 3 year absence.

We get mostly blue tits out the front, there is also some robins, black birds, jackdaw, & the pigeons are on the floor picking up what falls  lol

Nice photos. We've got some feeders out the back and a few years ago had a decent number of birds arriving for food but the neighbours (on both sides) decided to cut back some hedging & a few small trees last year, up to now we're struggling to get much but a few Sparrows, the odd Blackbird, the inevitable Pigeons, but, for the last few weeks we've had some Wagtails turn up, never had them before. Oh yeah, a couple of very well fed Squirrels too!!!
Rats have been a problem but I'm quite happy to put poison down, I use those 'bait stations' that other animals and birds can't get to.

@ Mick B
These were the feeders down the garden last year, and the galvanised dustbins we came home from work and most days the lid was off on one of them and there was a fat old squirrel in there eating the peanuts and the wild bird seed. I put the lid back on and put a weight on it, and the next day it was off again this went on for a few days and we were wondering how the squirrels were getting the lid off, then one evening I was making a cup of tea and I heard this banging outside so crept out only to see a badger on its hind legs pushing the lid off I wondered if the badger and the squirrels were working as a team  lol

The only badgers I've seen in the last few years are dead ones on the roads.
I'll see if I can sort a few photos of our 'visitors' and post them up.

Plenty of time to work that out, but I'll be zero help. I've just been out watering the pots and found a very fresh fox poop, I've just missed her by minuets I think.

Hi mick no sorry that’s the problem I have no idea how to put them on you tube  lol would you know ?
You have to sign into YouTube, then at the top of the screen you should have a little drawing of a camera, click on that, click crate, then upload video.
I then select file, search for the folder your video is in then select it.
From then on it's a case of clicking next a few times.
The only thing you must make sure is that when the page shows that asks private  or public you must select public, otherwise the link won't open for us.
Once it's all uploaded and on YouTube select the video, then right click on it and choose "Copy video URL" then all you do is paste that link into your post.
Probably easier than I've made it sound!  lol But if I can do it......... :thumb:

Nice pic's, like a nice woodpecker shot. Surprisingly common around here (greater spotted) but very few of the European Green woodies. I've never seen a lesser spotted woodie in Northumberland (yet). Keep 'em coming  :thumb:

P.S. how's the healing going ?

Thank you  :thumb:
The badgers are coming every night now usually from 21.30 there are 4 most nights  :)))

It is healing very well thank you I have been doing the exercises that the physio has given me, but my thigh muscle has wasted away so I am working on that, I have hospital Appointment tomorrow afternoon with the physio but to be honest it is a waste of time as I am already doing what she said, the problem is my wife has to leave work early to come and pick me up to take me, so as I say I will go tomorrow and see what she says lol
I had an Appointment last Friday with the surgeon who did the operation and got told off for bending my knee to much, my wife pushed me in to his office in the wheelchair I had managed to get my bad leg on to the footplate on the wheelchair
We thought I was doing the right thing  lol
But his first words were you are bending your knee to much you have it bent 80 degrees and you have probably ripped it off again 😱
So he took the brace off and was poking my knee where the stitches are and made it bleed then said you are lucky it is still ok but you must not bend it that much, I said to him I thought once it was set to the degree it won’t bend any more than that his reply was your brace has come down allowing you to bend it far to much he then sent me to the plaster room to have a new one fitted as my leg had lost its muscle it was allowing it to slip down.

Nice photos. Love the Badgers! Have you sorted the YouTube uploads yet?  :thumb:
Good to hear the healing is going well. When you got told off you didn't have to go and stand in a corner until you 'learnt your lesson' did you?  lol

Mick I have been thinking about posting stuff on YouTube but I am not sure if I want to really.
Title: Re: Foxy lady

That's not a problem. Some people don't want their personal stuff all over the internet.
I wasn't sure at first but I uploaded a fair few videos of some of our trips & rides, some fishing ones & some of the grandkids on days out.
I have posted the links to a few of those on the V-Strom forum & some other stuff on a fishing forum and they are the only ones that have got into double figures or more of my 'watched' videos. Some haven't been watched at all!!
Must be too boring for the general public!!   :thumb:

And you can always change the privacy settings from public to only visible to those who have the link. Then share/post the relevant link in the appropriate forum.

Is that correct Rusty? I posted a couple of video links on the V-Strom forum a few years back and nobody could open them until I made them 'public'. Unless I got it wrong (not unusual) and posted the wrong link or something like that.

Some videos of our animal life in the garden.............
I find the bees fascinating. I'm sure you may well know but they are Solitary Bees ( https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/blog/ryan-clark/guide-solitary-bees-britain), they lay the egg in those 'tunnels' and it is always the male who emerges first. They then hang around waiting for the females to emerge, then jump on them straight away!!
